A 17-year old high school senior was shot to death on Avenue C and 12th Street in the East Village at 1:50AM Sunday morning.
Keith Salgado was shot in the stomach and taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was eventually pronounced dead at 8:50AM.
The teen's family could not identify a motive for the murder, but police are not ruling out the possibility of gang-related violence. Ashley Mora, a cousin of Salgado's told The Daily News, "Everybody loved him. He was always there for me. It's just so sad."
16 others were shot around the city over the weekend, including a Bronx man outside a Connecticut strip club on Sunday. Three other individuals were reportedly stabbed.
The weekend's crime spree echoes the city's violent Labor Day weekend that left 67 people shot citywide and included a bloody shootout with police in Crown Heights.
