Luv Diapers 'Poop! There It Is!' Commercial Voted Worst Ad In 2011

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 10/17/11 05:42 PM ET Updated: 12/17/11 05:12 AM ET

It turns out people don't enjoy watching animated diaper blowouts. Just announced, Luv's "Poop! There It Is!" commercial -- an ad featuring three cartoon babies who show off their saggy bulging diapers in a talent show -- is Consumerist's Worst Ad in America. Thirty-two percent of voters said so.

Here's the thing. What do parents talk about more than poop? Is there any real harm in seeking a little humor out of the situation? Could it be that this 30-second-spot is so wrong that it's right? Yeah, we're not sure either. What do you think?

What do you think of the Luv's commerical?

I laughed, it's cute.

Gross!

I don't want to see ANY diaper blowouts, animated or otherwise.

I have mixed feelings about this being the worst ad in America, as several ads nowadays seem to be missing the mark. I wonder what commercial will top next year's list.
Here's another great read about the worst ads from this past year that breaks down a few categories into a "shouldwin/willwin" fashion: http://www.pavonefoodandbev.com/2011%e2%80%99s-worst-ad-in-america-awards/

What I haven't seen discussed, though I may have missed it, is the fact that these cartoon characters are in full control of their BM's and normally would not be even wearing diapers or training pants. These are purely voluntary actions.

I think this fact is related to how folks react to the add. Many kids gain full control, unknown to parents, before toilet training starts, usually the smarter ones. In an otherwise boring time they enjoy voluntarily spreading legs, bending knees a bit and filling underwear. The resulting feeling, relief and pleasure can become addicted.

Such behavior is suppressed during toilet training (with varying degrees of success), but remains as a latent memory back in folks minds (not so far back in those giggling kids) and is brought forward when viewing this add.

Think about it.

Looks like they had a couple of middle school students come up with this one...

When I first saw this ad, I was equal parts amused and appalled. We don't have a tv in our home so I saw it at my aunt's. Her and my mom couldn't wait to show me b/c they both thought it was completely hilarious. I thought my reaction was b/c I hadn't been exposed to ads in a while and wasn't aware at how tacky some could be. I didn't take it that seriously tho; my daughter uses Luvs. We certainly aren't going to start buying a more expensive brand b/c of some silly ad!

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

The agency who 'created' the ad must be run by college sophomores. And the executive who approved the ad for airing must have begged his daddy to let him keep his job. Disgusting garbage like this ends up becoming the norm instead of the exception and before you know it, it's all you'll see on the tube. It's already happened in the music industry with rap.

By far not the worst I've seen this year. Geico's commercial where the dad is eating the girls goldfish just makes me absolutely angry! Geico is famous for the really good commercials but this one sux!!!

I too can't stand that Geico commercial!!! It's not funny, it's pathetic!!! They're really good commericals have been few and far between lately.

I've got a houseful of dogs; the subject of poop is not off-limits and is most certainly a subject of humor (if only as a survival mechanism...) This commercial just isn't funny.

I think it's gross. I'm sure they could have made a funny diaper ad better than this one, I'm very easily amused but this ads just weird. Remember the ad where as soon as the dad took the baby's diaper off there was a huge waterfall of pee? Somehow it came off as hilarious and not gross. Advertising is interesting. You take baby steps to crossing the line, but get too close and you lose the humor.
Also, I bet sales for that diaper went up. it was ridiculous, but that's why it will sell more, the ad, and brand, stick with you because the memorable commercial. Advertising subconsciously influences us even when we think we're above it.

The best diaper ad ever is for the blue jeans diaper. THAT is hilarious

"I poo in blue!"

I've seen this commercial far too many times. I hate the fact that I watch it every time it comes on television. Did someone get paid to create this? Fire, the animator and hire me instead.

One of the best commercials this year is VW's little Darth Vader Boy. Each time I see it I smile.

My vote for worst ad? LaQuinta Hotels where the boss is kicking (literally) his employees in the butt!
I hate that commercial. It is abusive on so many levels .... and just very disturbing.

It's false advertisement too... my sister tried Luvs and ended up with a huge mess on her hands on more than occasion... This commercial is disgusting, I'm sorry, but I don't want to see this commercial on my television screen... I want it removed.
