After news of R.E.M.'s split in September, fans all over the world slung a stone-washed denim jacket over their shoulders and got into their cars to mourn their favorite melancholy, nostalgic tunes.

But don't despair, 90s-dwellers: R.E.M. has one more ditty up their sleeve.

The band has just released its last single ever, the poignantly-titled, "We All Go Back to Where We Belong." The track will appear on the band's greatest hits collection, "Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage: 1982-2011," which will hit stores November 15.

No, it won't take the sting away completely, but hey, at least the song is good. Here's to never jumping the shark!

I can see why it's their last but it truly sums up a one time near edgy band that slid into bubble gum fast going out with a whimper.

Being born in the right time (they would not have even been a blip in the Golden era) they filled the void with a couple of impressive ditties early but it didn't take long for them to become one big sulking bore to listen to. "Everybody Hurts" but after awhile these has beens were down right painful.

Meh... sounds tired and uninspired.... no wonder they broke up. Now excuse me while I go listen to Fables of the Reconstruction.

I just listened to this track.
At the end, I felt like throwing my tam-o-shanter in the air, just knowing that I was gonna make it after all. God, I'm gonna miss hating these ball-less twerps.

Yeah, what's that backing track with the horn and strings? I don't hate the song, but it just sounds a little cheesy after the first listen.

'...fans all over the world slung a stone-washed denim jacket over their shoulders....But don't despair, 90s-dwellers...'

Written by someone who knows nothing of R.E.M. or the band's fans.

I was thinking the same thing. While fans usually appreciate the 90s stuff, 9 times out of 10 they report that their favorite REM album as an 80s one.

"Stone washed denim jacket" ? Who writes these articles? 20 year old interns who do obtuse google searches as research? Yikes.
