Doo-Ri Chung For Macy's: Retailer Announces Next Collaboration

Posted: Updated:

Impulse marches on!

After pairing in the past year with Kinder Aggugini, Matthew Williamson, Karl Lagerfeld and Giambattista Valli, the next Macy's Impulse collaborator will be FLOTUS fave, Doo.Ri.

Women's Wear Daily reports that the Korean designer, whose full name is Doo-Ri Chung, has created a lower-priced capsule collection for the retailer called Doo-Ri for Impulse, Only at Macy’s (sort of a mouthful). The line will debut on February 15 and will sell for eight weeks in 225 Macy's stores and online.

As nearly every high-fashion designer has said of collaborating, "The customer is very different from whom we’ve catered to before, but I really didn’t have to adapt. Macy’s wanted to keep the design level high. I didn’t feel the challenge was very different," Chung told WWD.

It's perfect timing, as Michelle Obama received rave reviews just last week when she wore a purple Doo.Ri dress to the latest state dinner where she and the President hosted the President and First Lady of South Korea.

Chung told the Washington Post that the First Lady's office contact Chung after the brand's spring show, saying that "they really loved the strapless purple gown" but it would need to be a bit modified. “What we showed was a lot more risqué than what the First Lady could wear. Obviously a thigh-high slit would not work," Chung said.

The result (see below) was stunning. The Macy's collection won't be as luxe, of course, but Chung told WWD that jersey, the material of FLOTUS's state dress and a Doo.Ri signature, will feature prominently in the capsule collection.
