Water Ways Waterpark
Boone County's
bills itself as "family fun at its finest." The small park, located on Corridor G (U.S. Highway 119) between Charleston and Madison, W. Va., has two water slides, an Olympic pool, a lazy river for tubing, and shaded picnic areas. These quaint features make Water Ways the perfect spot for summer respite in the southwestern Mountain State.
Twin Twisty Slides
The park's main water attractions are its twin water slides, which are set side-by-side. While the park doesn't explicitly encourage racing, there's something to be said about the power of suggestion, particularly on a steamy West Virginia August afternoon. Sidle up to the chutes and let the good times flow.
Mini Golf And ATV Trails
In addition to its aquatic attractions, the park also has an 18-hole miniature golf course. For off-roading enthusiasts, the
branch of the regional Hatfield-McCoy
is located adjacent to the park.
Family Picnic Time
Unlike larger parks that offer on-site dining, the menu at Water Ways is pretty much up to the guest. There are shaded areas for picnicking, and larger
are available to rent by the day for large groups of people. These shelters commonly supply grills and the bigger ones have access to electricity and restrooms.

Waves Of Fun Water Park
Operated by the Putnam County parks department,
was the first water park in West Virginia to include a wave pool, which remains the main reason people make the trek out to this Teays Valley destination every summer. There is also an enclosed water slide -- the appropriately named Aqua Tube -- to pique the interest of more adventurous patrons.
The Aqua Tube
The Aqua Tube is a two-story high enclosed water slide that offers thrilling twists and turns in complete darkness. Although it might not the deliver the kinds of high-octane thrills that guests can expect at larger parks, the Aqua Tube is one of the main attractions at Waves of Fun. Kids have to be at least 48 inches tall to enjoy this ride.
Hit The Beach
The rolling surf and ocean-like breakers in the park's wave pool always cause a splash, but guests who'd rather stay dry might enjoy the adjacent beach. Bask in the sun on the sand or play a pick-up game of volleyball. There's also an 18-hole miniature golf course.
Food
There is an on-site concession stand that sells fast food, snacks and drinks.
