Though networks typically dispatch embeds during campaign season, MTV took a different approach to the tactic when it dispatched youth into the Occupy Wall Street protests for its show "True Life."

"True Life: I'm Occupying Wall Street" will premiere on Saturday, November 5, at 6 p.m. et. Four MTV embeds protested in Zuccotti Park with Occupy Wall Street demonstrators and immersed themselves in the cause.

The special will take viewers to "the front lines" of the Occupy Wall Street protests and follow the four embeds as they become "swept up in the cause." The special will focus primarily on the point of view of the younger demonstrators whose anger is seemingly focused on the concept that they graduated college and expected to find employment, but have been having difficulty in finding steady jobs during the recession.

I'm nowhere near a fan of MTV, but True Life is one of the few decent shows that they have. If they don't do these protestors justice, I'm writing a letter, and that's no joke.

Appalling. Great way to trivialize and delegitimize OWS.

The only good thing might be that the slugs who would watch this "reality" show might learn that there is an OWS movement.

will they allow themselves to be exploited just to be on TV and possibly become the next fad?

While it may sound like a good idea to some, I think they shouldn't allow themselves to be put on display by the likes of Viacom. Be smart, the same financers your protesting against own MTV. This isn't a fad, or something "cool", this is some serious shi*.

That anyone involved in OWS would countenance this is the surest sign to date of how ultimately frivolous this so-called protest really is.

This country has a long standing tradition of defusing popular revolt simply by marketing it; turning it into a commodity. This is merely the latest example.

I was talking about this last week. MTV used to be a relevant and important part of youth culture. Now it's just a sad part, appealing to the baser aspects of youth. There's just nothing educational left. Remember when MTV used to break into MTV news every hour with information? I miss videos. I miss buzz clips. I miss MTV Unplugged. It's just sad.

I blame eMpTVy for the reality show creation! Once they stopped playing Music, they became irrelevant to all but the lowest common denominator/viewers.

Drivel, drivel, drivel! They ought to be ashamed!

MTV certainly played a part in the advancement of so-called Reality television, but it's been around in one form or another for at least forty years.
