Escaped Animals That Made The News (PHOTOS/VIDEOS)

WATCH: Animals On The Loose

Last week, a shocking incident occurred in Ohio when an animal keeper killed himself after setting free a number of exotic animals, nearly 50 of which had to be killed. The animals killed included 18 Bengal tigers and 17 lions.

The tragic situation has sparked debate in Ohio, leading many to argue against keeping exotic animals. As Kari Bagnall, founder of Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary told the Associated Press, "The novelty wears off, and then they turn into what they are: wild animals."

Some animals on the loose aren't considered to be as much of a threat. A bear cub was recently found in an Alaska grocery store, but simply made a mess of the produce aisle.

An escape from many years ago is now posing a problem in Puerto Rico, where authorities have been working to remove and euthanize thousands of wild monkeys that are descendants of escaped research animals.

Below, find pictures and videos from some other notable animal escapes in recent memory. Most of these animals did not have to be killed, but their escapes were still shocking.
