United Nations Day: Photo Retrospective

Each year on October 24, the world celebrates the little-known anniversary of the United Nations.

'U.N. Day' commemorates the date on which the U.N. charter went into force. 66 years ago, after months of negotiations, the five permanent members of the Security Council and 46 other countries ratified the U.N. charter and thereby officially launched the world body. Today, the organization counts 193 members, has six principal organs and numerous affiliates.
