Color Of Change Urges MSNBC To Fire Pat Buchanan

Pat Buchanan

African American political advocacy group Color Of Change has called for MSNBC to fire longtime analyst (and even longer-time lightning rod) Pat Buchanan for what it called his "white supremacist ideology."

The advocacy group sent petition letters to its members on Tuesday. The letter said that MSNBC gives Buchanan a platform to pass off his often loaded remarks as "legitimate mainstream political commentary."

While Color of Change cited comments made by Buchanan from as early as March 2008, the advocacy group highlighted Buchanan's new book "Suicide Of A Superpower" and a Saturday appearance on the controversial radio show "The Political Cesspool" (whose host has described his ideology as "pro-white") as current reasons the network should fire Buchanan.

"Buchanan has just published a book which says that increasing racial diversity is a threat to this country and will mean the 'End of White America.' This weekend, to promote his book, he went on a white supremacist radio show..." read the "Fire Pat Buchanan" petition letter.

Buchanan also appeared on NPR's "The Diane Rehm Show" on Tuesday and further discussed his new book and radio show appearance on "Political Cesspool."

He defended his decision to visit the radio show and asked "Am I supposed to go and vet all the people on these shows and get the list from [Anti-Defamation League chief] Abe Foxman on what shows I can go on to?"

He added, "The individual was very interested in the race issue...but I wouldn't be on the program if somebody started calling racial or ethnic names. Or rather, I'd be on it, but I'd say that's the last time we're going on that one."

Buchanan also told Rehm that "the argument that diversity is a strength is a canard. It is nonsense."

Buchanan's new book takes on the racial makeup of the U.S. and has a chapter entitled "The End of White America." Pat Buchanan appeared on Sean Hannity's Fox News show and responded to then-speculative controversy surrounding this particular chapter. Buchanan said he was "not against minorities."

Buchanan has made headlines for other remarks in the past few months. He recently said that African Americans were living on a liberal plantation. He also referred to President Obama as "your boy" during an interview with Al Sharpton (though he strongly disputed that there were any racial overtones to those comments).

PB talks about Jews the way lots of black "civil rights" activists do. So apparently his anti-Jewish statements are not what makes the left angry. The reality is that as long as you believe in affirmative action you can say what you want about Jews, gays, etc and you will continue to be in the good graces of the "anti-racist" movement. Talk about Muslims or blacks the way Jerimiah Wright or Louis Farrakhan talks about Jews and freedom of speech comes to a halt. Many prominent blacks- Jerimiah Wright, NAACP, Black Cngressional Caucaus- promote and praise Farrakhan. Any white person who promotes or praises David Duke will be shunned from mainstream society. Sick of the double standard. Both people are equally detestable. White racists are not more dangerous than black or Muslim bigots.

ah, yes, "Anti-Racist-Action", a group from the eighties? it suffered from too many people with the organizer/boss mentality, lost its vision, became a caricature of its original intention -- to oppose racism, homophobia, misogyny, interpose wake people up, stand together...

and people with a "we need bosses" mentality tend to pick up momentum scary FAST.

PROBLEM with the sort of talk that faces double-standardism for its hypocrisy: such situations get people so passionate, usually no intelligent discussion happens.

people open the can of emotional worms that usually remains tightly shut -- and they become unglued, they get too passionate to have a discussion. this is WHY things are almost exactly the same, no deep meaningful changes since 1961....

to any who would seriously seek to do "anti-racist-action" based conversations, it's a time for patience, and to seek out your TRUE allies.

this sort of discussion invites a certain mentality that wants to "break it up" when a serious discussion begins to happen. especially if people begin to get passionate? show emotions, the important emotions at the core of any meaningful discussion about Prejudice? someone will say "Hey, no drama, too much drama, here, let's keep things real."

in terms of avoiding chronic groupthink potholes and making intellectual headway on issues, its great to identify your real allies against racism and get to where you can discuss things intensely with a shared goal of raising awareness. good luck, though..

I have tolerated Pat for some of his 'valid/insightful comments (when they were not biased) - He can't seem to help going back to the '50's of his Dad's ideas, biases, segregations, White DC living. I'm black, but am open-minded - PAT, NO MORE, MSNBC (MY FAVE), NO MORE PAT = CUT HIM OFF, DROP HIM OR, I (AND MY FRIENDS WILL DO SO - WE WILL CUT MSNBC OFF, STOP OUR VIEWING. THE OLD MAN IS SENILE, COMING BACK AROUND TO RACIST HATE.

Color of Change? A race based organization that advocates for African American empowerment is in no position to complain about Pat Buchanan appearing on a radio show that advocates for European Americans. Abe Foxman is applying a double standard.

This time, the Silent Majority needs to have its convictions, grievances and demands heard. And among them are these:

First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.

Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.

Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the ’60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.

Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks — with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas — to advance black applicants over white applicants.

Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and individuals all over America have donated time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks.

We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude?

D. Stephen Colbert possesses a wide range of emotional tools and a seasoned nuance when it comes to this specific form of discourse. I have no feeling at ALL that Dr. Colbert is a racist -- he is a Satirist, an Absurdist and a full time gifted and acclaimed professional.

When other people do it, thought, I tend to think some racist is simply being snide to my face, trying to see how far they can push me. But I don't know.

Everybody says there is this RACE problem. Everybody says this RACE problem will be solved when the third world pours into EVERY white country and ONLY into white countries.

The Netherlands and Belgium are just as crowded as Japan or Taiwan, but nobody says Japan or Taiwan will solve this RACE problem by bringing in millions of third worlders and quote assimilating unquote with them.

Everybody says the final solution to this RACE problem is for EVERY white country and ONLY white countries to “assimilate,” i.e., intermarry, with all those non-whites.

What if I said there was this RACE problem and this RACE problem would be solved only if hundreds of millions of non-blacks were brought into EVERY black country and ONLY into black countries?

How long would it take anyone to realize I’m not talking about a RACE problem. I am talking about the final solution to the BLACK problem?

And how long would it take any sane black man to notice this and what kind of psycho black man wouldn’t object to this?

But if I tell that obvious truth about the ongoing program of genocide against my race, the white race, Liberals and respectable conservatives agree that I am a naziwhowantstokillsixmillionjews.

They say they are anti-racist. What they are is anti-white.

Anti-racist is a code word for anti-white.

Much in the same way that Al Sharpton is merely a civil rights activist concerned about African-American rights.

And the National Council of La Raza is merely a civil rights group, concerned about Latin-American rights.

no, anti-racist is anti-racist.

now, for those whites who are anti-any color but white,
well, that's different eh?

I don't agree with everything Pat Buchanan says, but he certainly has the right to say it. And, if MSNBC is going to fire him as an analyst, then they should also fire those black and Latino analysts that they have which push their racial agenda. In a multi-cultural society like ours we need to encourage viewpoints from all aspects. If Pat Buchanan thinks that our country will be dramatically changed and not for the better by our push for multiculturalism, then that opinion should be heard. As you know, that multi-cultural agenda has been pushed on the American public through mass immigration without any discussion as to whether that is what the American people want.
03:37 PM on 10/27/2011
MSNBC should fire Al Sharpton for his racist attitude and being a facade of a preacher which is a scam artist.

Pat Buchanan is against our interventionist, continuous war policies as well.

MSNBC keeps people like Pat Buchanan around to appease its critics who say the network is too liberal. Same reason Fox has Colmes.
04:37 PM on 10/27/2011
You should do alittle research as Fox has many other Liberals on board.

To me Fox has neo-liberal agenda and neo-con agenda. They are more concerned about globalization and the status quo of the international elites then they are traditional American values.

This was way long overdue where as Pat is on a rampage to stop the fading of his idea of America which minorities don't matter and there for should be push to the back and halt any progress they try to make.

what I wonder about as a long time MSNBC reviewer are the advertisers: especially Chevron, but also Americans natural Gas, General Electric -- we can collectively call them "the Frackers".

any news about fracking or anti-fracking is usually bookended with "public service announcements" saying how CLEAN fracking is, how it's the best for America and how we need to get fracking Now.

so those who watch MSNBC have to realise that Cronyism for Halliburton and Bush CONTINUES...and Buchanan with his ties to the Nixon Administration is a part of Dat Ol' White Magic. Is he a Grand Wizard? Well, they are Invisible Knights, so if he WERE one of the Klan it would only come out in a trial. Is he IMMUNE to prosecution for conspiracy or hatecrime charges like Don Rumsfeld?

Oh, poor Pat. He does have the 1st amendment right to say what he will, but he DOESN'T have the right to be immune from moral, ethical, or legal consequences of his words. He is an at will employee and can be fired. If David Duke was a commentator on MSNBC and spouted his unvarnished opinion he would also face consequences of his actions.
