On the morning of Thanksgiving Day, the city of Baton Rouge hosts a family-friendly Turkey Trot benefiting the Louisiana March of Dimes. Events include a 1-mile Fun Run/Turkey Walk and a 5K Run. Top finishers in each race win special prizes. Early registration costs $20 per runner and $30 on the day of the race. The race starts and ends downtown at the corner of Convention and Third streets.
Thanksgiving Craft Fun At The Calcasieu Parish Public Library
The Calcasieu Parish Public Library in Lake Charles hosts a Thanksgiving-themed craft project appropriate for families. Small children and tweens can come to the library to make Turkey Day arts and crafts on the Tuesday afternoon before Thanksgiving. Registration is free and all participating kids go home with a handmade craft.
Volunteer: Shreveport Salvation Army Thanksgiving Dinner
On Thanksgiving Day, the Salvation Army in Shreveport hosts an annual Thanksgiving dinner for those in need. Hundreds of volunteers serve and deliver meals to the homeless and other residents. Families can volunteer to donate food, prepare Thanksgiving dishes and deliver and serve meals. In the past, volunteers and diners have been known to break out into raucous dancing.
