Annual Thanksgiving Arts & Crafts Show
The day after Thanksgiving is one of the biggest shopping days of the year. Get out and do some Christmas shopping at the Annual Thanksgiving Arts & Crafts Show during Thanksgiving weekend in Brewer. Crafts include jewelry, wood and glass decor, pottery, photographic prints, gourmet treats and much more. Admission is $1.50 at the door. The event is sponsored by United Maine Craftsmen, a nonprofit organization that promotes arts exhibits throughout the state.
Gasping Gobbler 5K Road Race
Run for your supper! Or before it, anyway. The Gasping Gobbler 5K Road Race in Augusta, Maine's capital city is an annual event held on Thanksgiving Day, before everyone gets too stuffed. The race benefits Cony High School Athletics. The entry fee is $20 for preregistration or $22 if registering the day of the race. The first 100 registrants receive a T-shirt, and the overall male and female winners are awarded trophies -- and a complete meal.
Volunteer: Adopt-A-Family Sponsor
The Salvation Army of Greater Portland provides needed services to children, families, singles and seniors. Every Thanksgiving, the organization sponsors an Adopt-A-Family program, which is a worthwhile volunteer opportunity to help those in need during the holiday season. Individuals, families or groups are asked to provide a Thanksgiving meal or toys and/or clothing for Christmas to a needy senior or family. This is a chance to spread the holiday spirit and help those in the community who are less fortunate.
