Glenn Beck Cries On 'Today' (VIDEO, SLIDESHOW)

Glenn Beck Today Show

First Posted: 10/26/11 11:21 AM ET Updated: 12/26/11 05:12 AM ET

Glenn Beck talked about his childhood and cried about his parents and his mother's apparent suicide in an interview with Kathie Lee Gifford that aired on Wednesday's "Today" show.

Beck opened up about his new book, "The Snow Angel." Though the book is a work of fiction, Beck drew from childhood events as inspiration. Beck said he grew up in an alcoholic and abusive household. He also discussed how his family never really addressed his mother's apparent suicide. Beck told Gifford that his mom drowned and the cause of death was still undetermined. Beck grew emotional when he discussed his parents. He was brought to tears when he said that "abuse is generational."

Gifford also discussed Beck's new media venture, GBTV. Beck said he had no sad feelings about leaving Fox News in June 2011 and said that he did not "really care" if his show attracts advertisers and sponsors.

"I don't owe a man a dime," Beck said. "I think the networks are a thing of the past."

When Gifford steered the conversation to Occupy Wall Street, Beck said that he understood some of the frustration felt by the protesters. Regarding "other parts" of Occupy Wall Street, Beck said "I go back to what I said in January and I stand by it. Radicals, revolutionaries, communists, socialists, and Islamists who are not on the same page on a lot of stuff, will gather together to end the capitalist system and the Western way of life."

Gifford highlighted that Beck traveled with a large security detail that was just a "reality of life" for Beck and his family. When asked if it was "all worth it," Beck responded, "I wouldn't want to be my children...I wouldn't want to be my wife."

I'm disturbed by the comments I'm reading. This guy chokes up while talking about being abused as a child, his mother's death, and his personal struggle and receives nothing but bashing and disparaging comments. It doesn't matter if you agree with him or not, if we can't see the humanity in each other we're all in trouble.

What's with these emotional labile conservatives? If it's real, then it's some kind of psychiatric or neurological disorder. If it's fake, it is the one of the worst kinds of huckerism. Either way, these guys need to put a sock in it and man up.

Are those tears of shame because "abuse is generational"? What else could he mean other than he is also an abuser. Abusers cry and show feelings of remorse (actually just feeling sorry for themselves because of the threat of being alone) on the down side of the cycle.

Every day that Glenn Beck cries is a good day to be alive. :-)

Does it occur to anyone else that Beck's "autobiographical" accounts of parental alcoholism and abuse and suicide might be as fictional, deceitful, and self-serving as all the other assertions Beck makes?

There's no good reason to imagine that Beck, who is wholly manipulative and deceitful in all other respects, would suddenly become truthful and honest when reporting his childhood. Especially if he has the chance to blame his own alcoholic and abusive nature on others.

The man is the most unrelenting, unrepentant liar of the 21st Century, even weeping while lying and slandering - so why assume he's suddenly truthful about his upbringing?

You can't believe anything the guy says. He speaks from a stream of conciousness perspective and doesn't have memory of the the things he says, at least that's how it appears to me. Why would they even put him on TV?

So, the childhood trauma made this guy into a bitter, crazed, ignorant, mean spirited, crybaby and he won't pay for therapy with all the money he's made?
I feel bad for his children because the psych professionals pretty much say that each generation that doesn't fix these issues inflicts the same trauma on the next. I do feel bad for his children and I can't imagine what kind of TV/Radio show they will start in the future. I wonder if it will involve screaming, ranting and talking about how their Dad treated them in childhood. Hope not.
