Michelle Obama's Giant Bow Sweater At Walgreens Event In Chicago (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 10/26/11 11:59 AM ET   Updated: 12/26/11 05:12 AM ET

First Lady Michelle Obama donned a big bow on her sweater as she visited her hometown of Chicago to encourage the mayor to make healthy food available and affordable for those living in lower-income neighborhoods.

The first lady joined Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel and eight other mayors, along with chief executive officers of several food retailers, at a Walgreens on the South Side to promote healthy eating, reports Business Week.

Style-wise, the FLOTUS looked lovely in a Tracy Reese black-and-white striped sweater that was festooned with a large bow on the right shoulder. The stripes especially popped against a background of fresh apples, oranges and watermelons as Mrs. O addressed the crowd.

This isn't the first time the first lady has embraced the bow. She wore a blue and green bow tank to plant trees back in 2009, and in April of that year she sported a huge bow on a crisp white shirt.

"In so many neighborhoods, if people want to buy a head of lettuce or salad or some fruit for their kid's lunch, they have to take two or three buses, maybe pay for a taxicab, in order to do it," the FLOTUS told the crowd, arguing for easier access to nutritious foods. A good cause and great style? We'll toast to that.

I'm not a "bow" person, but this sweater has me seeing them differently. In fact, I think I love it. :)

Michelle is a beautiful, intelligent woman. Lay off the clothes she choose to wear, it is her choice for goodness sake. I am disgusted by the fact that this article talks more about her clothing than the mere fact that she is trying to make a difference.

Walgreens is typically much higher in price than Target or Walmart on health/beauty product. I wonder if the fresh food will be affordable for those in lower income neighborhoods if they take their usual markup.

We had a drug store named Long's here in the SF Bay Area that always provided some fruits and vegetables available at a very reasonable prices and some of us who could afford higher prices bought there. I am hoping that Walgreens manages to do the same-make fresh fruit and vegetables available in communities without easy access to these necessary ingredients of a healthy diet.
What type of thinking goes into weighing Michelle Obama's dress of the day over what she is talking about?

You don't have to like the sweater, I do! And we all are individuals so all of us people have different tastes, Mine is not to show alot of skin, it destorys the imagination and leaves one looking sl...u..ty. And yes, it is a cute sweater for me, doesn;t have to be for you.

The b1le typically comes from the same posters. They don't like the person but are front and center for everything she does. Reminiscent of a bunch jealous annies who sit around talking about the popular girl at school, girlfriend or wife in the neighborhood, or co-worker.

This sweater, as most of O's casual attire, is in step with what I see here in NYC from the 9-5 sect. Whether you like it or not is irrelevant but to pretend it's "tacky" or "not fashionable" is LAME *to put it nicely*.

Great sweater, great hair, great look. It amazes me to see how much vitriol this fine woman can raise in the right wingers.

Bows are for girls. Women over the age of 20 shouldn't wear them - especially in thier hair.
