Rachel Maddow condemned Rick Perry on her Tuesday show for his recent comments about President Obama's birth certificate.
Maddow said that Perry was "tanking," and was employing a "kitchen sink" strategy in an attempt at a comeback. She felt, though, that this strategy consisted of copying the tactics that have been successful for his fellow GOP candidates. She noted that Perry brought on "establishment Republican staffers" modeled after Mitt Romney's campaign leadership. Perry also revealed his own proposal for instituting a flat tax that Maddow compared to his version of Cain's "9-9-9" tax plan.
Maddow described Perry's most "desperate" move as his mimicking of a tactic used by Donald Trump during his brief but noisy candidacy stint — birtherism. Perry discussed President Obama's birth certificate in Parade Magazine this week and again during an interview with CNBC's John Harwood.
Maddow attacked Perry for milking the birther conspiracy for "all it's worth," since he announced that he would release his own birth certificate on Tuesday.
"Every kitchen sink does have a filthy little drain hole in it, a filthy little drain hole personified by Donald Trump this year," Maddow said. "And now Rick Perry has climbed into that little hole with him."
