Regis Philbin Takes 'Flamboyant' Fashion Risk (PHOTO, POLL)

Regis Philbin took what he described as a "flamboyant" fashion risk Tuesday night.

Appearing at the 2011 Alzheimer's Association Rita Hayworth Gala at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York, Regis debuted something he's been waiting years to wear.

"I got all dressed up last night," he told Kelly Ripa Wednesday morning. "I had a black jacket that I actually kept in the closet for about three years. I've never worn it, because it's a little flamboyant. It's just two different shades of black stripes and then with a little vest."

Regis said he broke out the two-tone jacket because Bryant Gumbel would be at the dinner.

"The most stylish man ever on the planet," Kelly described Gumbel. "His skin is soft like butter and he smells divine."

But did Regis' duds impress Gumbel?

"I wear the whole thing, and I go and I said, I'll just stand in front of him and let him take a look at me and eat me up," Regis said. "He gave me one of those disdainful Bryant Gumbel looks. Like, why are you even here?"

Although I stopped watching his show several years ago(Nothing personal just changed tastes), they are a very handsome couple. I did a wiki search and discovered Regis is 80 y/o and Joy is 70. Wow!

"Flamboyant" would have been if Regis had shown up in a hot pink or BRIGHT color ... his jacket was far from flamouyant .... For a dignified man like he is ... he looked dashing.

Regis & Joy look great! I hate to see Regis leave "Live",,,he is irreplacable in my opinion. Regis is old school and Joy has such class which is something that is rare in todays world. Regis, I will be watching to see what you do nex't? I've watched FOREVER & mornings will not be the same :o( I hate to say it but if "Live" survives it will really surprise me!

I met Joy in 1980 in Los Angeles at the Shriner's Auditorium for the Emmy's. I was with the Daniel J Travanti crew (Hills Street Blues possee) and she is still hot!
