Chicago Area Dogs And Cats Up For Adoption (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 11/27/11 03:41 PM ET Updated: 11/27/11 05:00 PM ET

HuffPost Chicago has partnered with three animal shelters in the metropolitan area to spotlight a selection of adoptable, adorable cats and dogs each week. In honor of the Halloween holiday, this week we've been sure to include a couple of lucky black cats.

We've also included an adoption shelter success story. If you have your own shelter pet story you would like to share, be sure to send a note (and a picture) to chicago@huffingtonpost.com.

Photos appear courtesy of the Evanston Animal Shelter's Community Animal Rescue Effort, Felines Inc. and Famous Fido Rescue and Adoption Alliance. To our knowledge, all animals are spayed or neutered, microchipped and up-to-date with their tests and vaccinations.

If you missed last week's group of cats and dogs available for adoption, check them out here. They are all still looking for their forever homes.

And if you cannot take in any more pets today, all the shelters could use donations to help them continue doing the work they do.

A few months ago my sister found a cat starving and crying in Chicago. Her belly was so swollen we tohught she was pregnant. She brought her to me and after a round of anti biotics and a few vet visits to be sure she was healthy (which I paid for out of pocket and do not regret). I took care of her while Wright Way shelter tried to make room for her somewhere. She is very very sweet and affectionate but I couldn't keep her because my cats couldn't stand her (and let me know it with a few surprises in my bed, jerks). She is up to date on shots, fixed and microchiped. She is up for adoption at the Petco listed here: http://www.recycler.com/details/4561859/wheezy-needs-you-domestic-short-hair-black-and-white-cat

I feel awful she's still not adopted. Please check her out or reply to this and I'd be happy to speak with you as I had her for over a month and got to know her very well.

I am a cat person but it is funny how the dogs took pictures like they were professional models, and the cats were in their natural "settings"...

cats name = Julia Child
future kitties names= Cyndi Lauper or Michael Jackson

Oh man, Paulie stole my heart! But with two pit rescues and two cats, we just can't do it now. Someday we'll foster...someday. Best of luck to those who do!

You have my deepest sympathies. I lost my fuzzband several months ago, but he left behind 9 brothers and sisters, equally wonderful. Otherwise, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

I'm sorry for your loss. And I hope you do adopt one of the millions of homeless dogs when you're ready. I'm sure your late shepherd would love you for it!
