Canton, Mass-based Dunkin' Donuts said Wednesday that 86 new restaurants are slated for development in the Washington D.C. market by 2020.

15 development agreements were signed over the past year that will deliver 64 new restaurants, in addition to 22 restaurants that were previously contracted.

"These 15 agreements have essentially sold out Dunkin' Donuts development opportunities in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area," said Grant Benson, CFE, vice president of franchising and market planning, Dunkin' Brands, Inc. "These deals represent a 50 percent increase in rooftops from the 125 restaurants in the market right now."

Hank Huth, an existing franchisee since 2008, signed the largest agreement for a total of 38 units which includes the acquisition of 16 existing restaurants, as well as purchasing a central manufacturing location in Washington D.C. Huth's restaurants will be developed from Pennsylvania Avenue west to Gainesville and half of his commitments are "inside the beltway."

"Dunkin' Donuts Expansion: 86 New D.C.-Area Stores Planned"

That's absolutely the last thing D.C. needs -- more overweight politicians and federal bureaucrats gorging on fried dough and running up their health insurance costs -- which get passed onto the taxpayers out here in the heartland.

you're right, i wasn't clear: i think that having 86 stores in DC is overkill because it's not big enough to absorb. of the dunkin donuts coffee that i have had in DC, it's terrible and inconsistent. i think that having 86 potentially inconsisten sites is overkill.

sorry for my incomplete thought. i'm sluggish today. it's a blah day.

Zombie Alert:

Color me paranoid, but the Carlisle group bought Dunkin' Donuts a few years ago and have really expanded and updated the brand. Now this big move into DC. Just sayin' don't drink the coffee unless you too want to become an unwilling lobbyist for the defense industry.

This must be Mitt Romney's new plan to Occupy D.C. His company owns control of Dunkin Donuts. What's next, open a kiosk in the White House? America get the runs on Dunkin.

Why? The coffee is the worst.
02:17 PM on 10/27/2011
actually, not. Just because a Starbucks insignia is printed on a cup, it doesn't make the coffee taste better (just more expensive).

i only ask that the staff down here learn to make coffee like they do in the northeast region because folks up there know the right amount of cream and sugar to put in the coffee.

dc area dunkin donuts folks are all over the place and you never get the same coffee at every location

It's the same everywhere, or should be. I worked at DD in high school, it's like any other fast food chain. The default amount of sugar, cream, and every other minute detail of operations is printed if front of the food / drink prep area. You could can always ask specifically how much you want and they'll do it your way ;)
02:32 PM on 10/27/2011
you are right that it should be the same everywhere just like any other place.

unfortunately for the dc area dd's this is not the case. i actually avoid going to certain dd's because they make the coffee bad. the boston and ny chains put the right amount of cream and sugar (or light and swee as its known) and it tastes fine. i have no clue how much they put in because they do it right the first time around.

i feel you though. its like going to a mcdonalds and getting a different tasting quarter pounder at one location over the next. thats whats happening with the dd's in dc.....
