Haute Couture Or Halloween Costume? (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 10/27/11 09:50 AM ET   Updated: 12/27/11 05:12 AM ET

We've all seen photos from runway fashion shows that make us think, "Who would actually wear that?" And now that Halloween is just around the corner, those eccentric, haute couture "outfits" are easy to confuse with Halloween costumes.

OK, maybe it's not easy to confuse the two, but it's definitely fun. We dug through our photo archive to find 24 completely ridiculous runway ensembles and figured out what the designers were really going for: hilarious Halloween costumes!

From that sexy green M&M's dad to the most expensive ghost costume you've ever seen, here's what we think one could do with these exorbitantly priced fashions come October 31. Because let's be real -- no one's wearing this stuff off the runway.

its really incredible how badly people misunderstand this part of the fashion industry. these aren't things meant to be worn in public or bought. this isn't about vanity or opulence. this is art... the same way you would go to see a painter exhibiting their work at a gallery, you go to one of these fashion shows to the see the art of a designer.

its like... many artists get work designing pamphlets or web sites or drawing pictures for books to pay the bills, but thats not who they are as artists. in their time away from those jobs they work on their own pieces... from their own minds, unrestricted from the object of money. then they try to show those pieces in a gallery and make a name for themselves.

or as a musician, you start in a band that has to play a lot of covers so you can get gigs. then slowly you build a following and start introducing your own songs with the hopes that people start to want to hear your songs more than the covers.

this is the same thing. fashion designers are brilliant artists who don't just want to sit around designing gap clothes. they want to express their artistic vision.

they put us in a straightjacket of their censorship and then we try to swim through this sea of opinions with some of our own. i'm sure they think they are doing it for the best of reasons, growing their business, but its not real freedom of expression.

Y'know, it's really hard to decide which one I like the best. They're all so nice. I could really pull off these looks on an average casual Friday!

As a student of the Fashion, my final judgement is What. The. Funk. There IS a difference between Fashion Design and Stage Design, although I don't think that some of these designers understand that concept and makes me wonder how they got through school. Oh, what do I know, I'm just a novice, I know nothing of "fashion"!! *rolls eyes*

This is not fashion as much as 'wearable art', not intented for sale but for the show...just to make a statement.

Why do "people" who don't understand fashion and or art
(like most who posted below me and the writer of pic titles),
even bother to come to/write for this section.

Most articles are written like:
Look everybody, come see how stupid this is.
OR
Look everybody, can you believe how much this costs?

Why even bother having a style section?
You should put all this stuff in comedy if this is how you feel.
Yes, this time it was, as well as in style. But it's like the first time.
The anti-fashion sentiment in the style section is off the charts.

That is all.

The picture titles were funny. My favorite was "Every prop leftover from David Lynch's Dune"

Because it is only understandable as FRAUD or LUNACY and perhaps BOTH. Other than rabid hilarity fashion designers of this ilk provide zero contributions to human civilization.

Why do fashion designers hate humanity? And who in humanity has the self-loathing to buy their schlock and validate their insanity?

No one really buys this stuff. Some of it may be a touch stone in regards to colors, textures, or a toned down version for the masses. Even on the red carpet you won't see these styles. It's the designers imagination gone wild.

seriously what are these people smoking to come up with this stuff , the only thing thats even remotely decent is the metal spine corset, the rest of it belongs in a music video or an insane asylum.
