First Posted: 10/27/11 10:58 AM ET   Updated: 12/27/11 05:12 AM ET

We’re all well-acquainted with the iconic photo of John, George, Paul and Ringo strolling across Abby Road, but have you ever seen the quartet riding in carriages, making goofy faces? And most Rolling Stones fans have witnessed Mick Jagger jumping on-stage, but have you watched him chat with Andy Warhol or relax on the beach, or standing with the other Stones at the Alamo?

Behind-the-scenes music photographer Ken Regan has shot images for Time, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Life, and has complied a collection of photos from the last four decades. His book, “All Access: The Rock n Roll Photography of Ken Regan” (Insight Editions, $75.00), has a preface by Keith Richards, Introduction by Mick Jagger and an Afterword by James Taylor, so he's clearly made some friends. There are more than 400 photos in the book, offering a candid look at the lives of great musicians through compelling photojournalism.

Was Madonna born with her tongue rolled out provocatively?

Hey give me unlimited access to celebrities and I can take photos just as good as these. Nothing great about them other than they are of celebrities.

As an american Mr Dylan's entitled to freedom of speech just as you are. Now, just what have you done with your life? He certainly has more than 115 fans. Maybe change the identifier to 'Huffpost Super Tool'.

Dylan looks like he went face first into the cocaine.

It is absolutely Dylan. All you nay-sayers must not be fans. It is well documented that he wore whiteface on his Rolling Thunder Revue tour from Autumn 1975 to early '76. Allen Ginsberg came on the tour with him, as did Joan Baez, Roger McGuinn (of The Byrds), T-Bone Burnett, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott, among others. The actor & playwright Sam Shephard was also there and released a book about the experience (Rolling Thunder Logbook) with some of Ken's photos also seen here.
During that time, he recorded a bizarre, symbolist film called "Renaldo & Clara" (YouTube it) that was half-concert film, half-fiction film. It was influenced by "Les Enfants du Paradis" (Children of Paradise) hence the whiteface. The visit to Kerouac's grave is seen in the film as well.
This happens to be my favorite tour of his. The live recordings from it on his Bootleg Vol. 5 are excellent. And just to add something interesting I found on Wikipedia: Sometimes, he even walked on stage wearing a plastic mask, only to toss it aside after the first song to play harmonica on "It Ain't Me, Babe." According to Rivera, one heckler asked Dylan "Why are you wearing a mask?" to which Dylan replied, "The meaning is in the words."

Love your lengthy explanation. But, who the hell cares ??? I love Dylan for his music, not his looks.

That's fine. I respect your opinion & thanks for taking time to read it.
It just bothered me that people were so sure it wasn't Dylan (one poster was insinuating HuffPo had been duped by the photog...) when a simple Google search would reveal otherwise. Just because it's the internet, it doesn't mean you should speak ("post") without thinking. Though I'm certain many would disagree... ;)
I like the whole package: lyrics, music, and performance style (not just "looks"). I will admit to being more into him than most people. Heck, I even took a class on him in college-- most enjoyable four credits I ever earned!

Fanned for your most informative and well written post. I saw that tour also, but you are correct, many don't understand what the white face pic is about.

Good thing they left out a bunch of shots of Dylan for other artists...

Wow! Dylan didn't look quite as ugly as usual with white-face.

Not the Bob Dyan of the 60s-70s.
