When Kenwyne Jones scored just before halftime, it looked as if Stoke City might be able to defeat Liverpool in the Carling Cup to maintain its unbeaten record in Britannia Stadium. But Liverpool striker Luis Suarez wouldn't let that happen, putting on an scintillating performance in the second half. The Uruguayan star scored two goals and lifted Liverpool past Stoke, 2-1.
The first goal came just nine minutes into second half when Suarez received a pass wide on the left side. Once defender Ryan Shotton tried to close in on him, Suarez made a mesmerizing move and tapped the ball right through his legs. Suarez ran around Shotton and just before a second defender charged at him, he was able to get a shot off that curled and found the back of the net in the far corner.
In the 85th minute, Jordan Henderson delivered a beautiful cross to Suarez in front of the net, allowing the forward to head it in for the game-winning goal.
