Occupy Wall Street's Oakland Solidarity March Explained By Casey Neistat (VIDEO)

Occupy Wall Street demonstrators marched in solidarity for protestors in Oakland who on Tuesday engaged in a violent clash with police authorities attempting to quell the intensity with tear gas and beanbag rounds.

Filmmaker Casey Neistat provides a close and personal look into the solidarity march as protestors walked from Lower Manhattan up Broadway towards Canal Street.

Neistat also had the chance of bumping into Marine Sergeant Shamar Thomas, whose impromptu speech condemning police brutality was captured on video and went viral. He also noted that, for the most part, the huge crowd of protesters seemed to march uptown--in the street--without any police presence whatsoever (that changes at the end).

The East Village filmmaker has documented a range of topics including guidelines on when subway riders should pull the emergency cord, explanations on Chatroulette, and testing out Apple's new virtual assistant Siri.

Watch below. Neistat apologizes for the shaky recording due to being chased by a baton waving officer.

Freedom of speech. Freedom of assembly. Looks to me like the police did the right thing here by staying out and making sure things didn't get out of hand.

I love how all the "strict Constitutionalists" decry this movement.

Good report, Casey. Appreciate the play-by-play breakdown and the context given with the map. Also, interesting to see the onlookers reaction to the protesters passing by, e.g., the construction workers, and storekeepers, even the dog.

Well done. Hope to see more.

People are protesting in huge numbers, why is the police trying to stop this? Better yet who is giving the orders to stop the people from protesting?

The City for the most part. Traffic, commerce, and the rest of it can't just grind to a halt every time someone is protesting, blocking traffic is illegal. Throwing garbage all over the street, also illegal. Interfering with an arrest, also a crime. Most people and cities are not going to have a problem with you, its when you start doing illegal stuff they have problems.

Are you suggesting that protecting traffic is more important than protecting freedom of speech and freedom of assembly? What do you think about when the police allowed the protests to go onto the vehicle ramp of the Brooklyn Bridge (something they could easily have stopped) and then arrested 700 people in a pre-arranged ambush once they were already there?

And I seem to have missed the part in the video where people were "throwing garbage all over the street." I do however see garbage all over the street in many parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens (the three boroughs I spend most of my time) for as long as I've lived here. Are you suggesting that was all done by the protesters?

Bloomberg has told the NYPD that Police Brutality looks bad and just brings unwanted national attention. Hopefully the Oakland PD gets the same message.

Must he continually use the word "mob"???? That is a loaded word used to disparage nonviolent civil disobedience.

Apparently he thinks it is appropriately descriptive. If the shoe fits, wear it.
