Conan Writer Deon Cole Offers 'Racial Perspective' On PETA Sea World Suit (VIDEO)

First Posted: 10/28/11 11:08 AM ET Updated: 10/28/11 02:40 PM ET

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has done a lot for our non-human friends, but their most recent endeavor -- accusing Sea World of violating the 13th Amendment ban on slavery -- is raising more than a few eyebrows.

On Thursday night's "Conan," writer Deon Cole offered his thoughts on the lawsuit which accuses the park of keeping its five star-performer whales in conditions similar to African American slaves before the civil rights movement in a new segment called "Racial Perspective."

So, how exactly does Cole feel about the suit? Let's just say he can sum up his entire argument in one sentence (or three).

Something is fishy about this suit. Why doesn't PETA sue on behalf of the millions of Chickens and Swine kept in terrible conditions and then slaughtered, instead of Whales kept in safe, cushy conditions that get too live out their natural lives?

If the whales don't like it, they are free to eat their masters... I don't think they need Peta bringing lawsuits

PETA is a cause looking for logic and reality and for the so-called 'sake of animals' can be more dangerous and cause more harm for them and the world than good.

As a former PETA emner form the 80's, they come off more as a fundraising organization preying on the good intentions and compassion of others.

If you really want to help animals - volunteer or donate to your area's ZERO KILL shelters.

At least they don't euthanize the animals they "rescue". can say that for PETA.

We are all slaves to war... that's ok the killer whales may be psychic and are working the world collective consciousness to get us to kill ourselves off... we even call black people colored when black is the absence of color and it is the whites who are multi-colored...

actually, in artistic terms, WHITE is the absence of color...BLACK is a combination of all colors.

I've said before that if we were to be invaded by aliens, PETA would be their collaborators/"liaisons."

My favorite perspective on PETA came from Jack Hannah on Politically Incorrect a number of years ago in response to their assertion that showing animals on TV in order to educate the public about them (and call attention to the plight of the endangered) was exploitative.

To paraphrase:

"PETA claims to be about animal rights and well-being. Do you know how much they've donated to save endangered animals? NOTHING. Not one cent."

I'm not sure if this situation has changed in the intervening years, but it was certainly telling at the time.

Not even going to open the can of worms concerning the number of healthy animals they killed in the past years.

PETA is a very hypocritical organization. They have gotten away with more garbage over they years. I keep waiting for people to get smart about them.
