Firefighters Ticketed For Parking In Politicians' Spots

10/28/11 12:13 AM ET   AP

PITTSBURGH — While firefighters in Pittsburgh were at City Hall getting flu shots, the trucks they parked outside were getting parking tickets.

The trucks were parked for about 5 minutes Wednesday in permit-only spaces reserved for City Council members. But council President Darlene Harris denies any involvement.

Mayor Luke Ravenstahl says the tickets never should have been issued. He says firefighters were encouraged to get flu shots to stay healthy.

Firefighters union attorney Josh Bloom says they drove the trucks to City Hall so they could stay on duty.

Fire Chief Darryl Jones tells KDKA-TV he has appealed the tickets. He says he'll ask a judge for leniency.

I get it, if there's a call while they are in the building they should run a block or two to the truck. Then when they get to your house they should put on their air packs which because they ran to the truck they will suck down in record time. Running out of air may be the difference in having the time to save your useless butt

This is a great idea for increasing revenue for our struggling cities.

Lets ticket police cars as they write tickets! And those fire trucks pumping water, but parked in red zones - that's a big buck ticket.

What a great idea - only the GOP could have thought this one up.

Would they have received tickets if they were fighting a fire? Naw. This is Pittsburgh. I'm from there. This is a practical joke. Ya'll don't get yer panties in a wad.

Just plain stupid. I would probably fire everyone that's not an elected official and those would be out at the next election.

I had a friend who worked for The electric company in Boston a number of years ago. Every time they had to open a manhole cover they had to pay a substantial sum to the city. But while they were doing their job, cops would ticket the trucks for illegal parking. You've gotta love this sort of nonsense.

Yes well Mass is like that. Fortunately most other states, I hear, are not like us.

It's time to cleanup the political mess in this country. All elected offices should be limited to 2 terms and your out. New blood new ideas. No more lifetime congressmen who have lost touch with the people they are supposed to serve and think they are kings.

Both the council president and mayor are demorcrats but that kind of information is not given unless they were republicans then the headline would have read much differently. This political party is always ready to ensure they are never infringed on and this is just a small example. No doubt a standing order exists that should anyone reguardless of who they might be dare set foot on their sacred ground then punitive action must be swift and without question. This could also be said of the republicans as well but considering how the dems. like to say they are for the working class and especially people like first responders it never fails how they demonstrate how phoney they truly are.

Chyea its Obamas fault right?

Why would you say that? I'm not like the dems. who look to a scape goat for cover. In this case it is by order of those in charge and it is dems. who sway power in this city, for now.

I bet that the cop who wrote the citations was a Republican.

May never know that but we do know that person was following the orders of the powers that be who we know are dems.
