What To Do On This Cold Halloween Weekend

For those of you who don't want to wait to celebrate Halloween at the parade on Monday, check out these events below to ensure a weekend packed with parties, pumpkin smashing, and art hopping.

My Undead Halloween Pre-Party
Where: Fog Gallery, 508 West 26th Street
When: Friday, 6PM-10PM
Price: Free
Start off your Halloween weekend with an evening celebrating the culmination of photographer Ben Trivett's successful zombie themed Kickstarter at Chelsea's Fog Gallery. The project chronicles Trivett's seven week collaboration with various stylists, special effects specialists, and make up artists who have all worked to bring the 'Undead' alive in astonishing photography. To top it all off, Trivett will grace guests with an open bar and zombie themed delectables.

Catapults!
Where: New York Hall of Science, 47-01 111th Street, Queens; (718) 699-0005
When: Saturday-Sunday, 12PM and 4PM
Price: $11 Adults, $8 kids
Spend the day smashing pumpkins with New York Hall of Science's 19-foot catapults as they hurl hundreds of pumpkins into the sky. Add a dose of knowledge to the inexplicable fun as you learn about the science behind the projective machines.

Carsten Holler: Experience

Halloween isn't your thing? There's still a chance to delve into your inner childhood with a 102-foot slide at the New Museum for an exhibit featuring the work of renowned German artist Carsten Holler.

SUPERFUNd Masquerade
Where: Cut Brooklyn, 461 3rd Avenue, between 9th and 10th streets, Brooklyn; (646) 247-9955
When: Friday, 8PM-11:30PM
Price: $17 in advance, $20 at the door
Kick things up a notch by taking your Halloween festivities to a knife shop! Cut Brooklyn opens its doors for a night of vodka and champagne punch, costume contests, and of course, candy.

Beat Nite 6
Where: Various arts space in Bushwick
When: Friday
Price: Free
Check out the 6th installment of Beat Nite: Bushwick Art Spaces Stay Open Late for a half art stroll, half bar crawl adventure. Voted Best Neighborhood-Wide Gallery Night by L Magazine, featured spaces include Valentine Gallery, Norte Maar, Regina Rex, and more. Also note, the official after party is at The Bodega!

The Muppet Vault: Monsters!
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street, Brooklyn; (718) 638-4400
When: Saturday, 2PM
Price: $8
Union Hall is opening its vault of stashed Jim Henson works for a screening of the Muppet Show starring horror icon Vincent Price. Enjoy drink specials, candy, and trivia competitions. Show up in a Muppet costume and you'll receive a gift!

Village Halloween Party
Where: 6th Avenue between Bleecker and 14th Streets
When: Monday, 6:30PM
Price: Free
The weekend culminates with one of the city's favorite pastimes, the Village Halloween Parade! Check out the very best in costumes as New Yorkers show off their fun, creative costumes.

Halloween Double Feature: Shaun of the Dead and The Walking Dead

Price: Free
Bookend the weekend with a double feature screening of the classic flick Shaun of the Dead and a regular weekly screening of The Walking Dead. Drinks specials will be available as well.

Halloween Is Happening
Where: Trinity Church, Broadway at Wall Street; (212) 602-0800
When: Friday, 4PM-9PM
Price: Free, donations accepted
If you weren't aware, Halloween is Happening, and Trinity Church has a line of events ready for including a photo booth, happy hour, and a screening of the silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

Eataly Cooking School
Where: Birreria at Eataly, 200 Fifth Avenue; (212) 229-2560
When: Monday 11AM, 2PM, 5PM, 8PM
Price: $125 per person
Take a cue from the likes of celebrity chefs Mario Batali and Jonathan Benno for an all star cooking demonstration. Each demonstration includes two courses with wine pairings (gratuity and tax included). Bon apetit!
