Tiger Cubs Make Their Debut At Sydney Zoo (VIDEO)

First Posted: 10/29/11 09:15 PM ET Updated: 10/29/11 09:17 PM ET

What's cuter than a baby animal? Three baby animals.

The video below, from the Associated Press, shows young tiger cubs making their public debut at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia.

The three Sumatran tiger cubs were born on August 20th and were an important addition for the zoo. There may be as few as 400 Sumatran tigers left in the wild.

Cameron Kerr, the zoo's director and chief executive, said in a press release, "In a world where just 7% of original tiger habitat remains, this triple birth is a great achievement by Taronga’s dedicated keepers. When you think that these cubs represent nearly 1% of the wild Sumatran Tiger population, you realise just how precarious the future is for these iconic creatures.”

Things may be looking up for wild tigers in other places. A survey earlier this year of India's tiger population showed that the population had increased in the past four years.

They are gorgeous. It's too bad they will never know freedom, thanks to humans. It's a tragedy that their species is on the brink of extinction, also thanks to humans. WWF estimates 3,200 tigers left in the wild with only ~1,000 of them being breeding females. If you care about the tiger then do something to protect their status in the wild, to increase their numbers and permanently preserve what's left of their dwindling habitat.

I know their mom can eat me, but I would LOVE to snuggle with those babies! I have such a stronger reaction toward baby animals than baby humans lol

We have a place near me that in spring they have several bear cubs born. They take them to schools, nursing homes and such. They are the cutest little things.

But they don't represent 1% of wild Sumatran tigers... Unless the zoo plans on releasing them from captivity?

The baby tiger looking at the other baby tiger looks a lot like Garfield. I think Garfield might be a little envious.
