Herman Cain Sexual Harassment Accusations: GOP Presidential Candidate Denies Politico Report

AP/THE HUFFINGTON POST   First Posted: 10/30/2011 9:59 pm Updated: 12/30/2011 4:12 am

GOP presidential hopeful Herman Cain has denied a report alleging that he sexually harassed women during his time as head of the National Restaurant Association.

Politico released a story Sunday evening, noting that at least two female employees made complaints about Cain:

During Herman Cain’s tenure as the head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s, at least two female employees complained to colleagues and senior association officials about inappropriate behavior by Cain, ultimately leaving their jobs at the trade group, multiple sources confirm to POLITICO.

The women complained of sexually suggestive behavior by Cain that made them angry and uncomfortable, the sources said, and they signed agreements with the restaurant group that gave them financial payouts to leave the association. The agreements also included language that bars the women from talking about their departures.

In a statement given to the Associated Press, Cain's campaign labeled the Politico report as "dredging up thinly sourced allegations" from his tenure at the trade group. Spokesman J.D. Gordon told the AP that the claims include "unsubstantiated personal attacks", adding that the press is "casting aspersions on his character and spreading rumors that never stood up to the facts."

Cain's camp entered Sunday riding an Iowa high. A key Des Moines Register poll unveiled on Saturday shows the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza in a virtual tie with rival Mitt Romney for the lead in the GOP 2012 primary.

Polls aside, Gordon addressed the allegations in a Sunday night interview with Fox News' Geraldo Rivera. The veteran host pushed Cain's spokesman on the charges, urging him "to say something publicly right now."

"These two sources aren't even named in the piece and it was from a third party," Gordon replied.

"Are you denying it ever happened, J.D. Gordon?" Geraldo asked.

"What I'm saying is that these are thin allegations, that this is non-sourced," Gordon answered. "And so right now, we're just trying to put this into perspective for you -- that this is not even a sourced allegation."

WATCH the interview here (Via Mediaite):

According to the AP, aides did not immediately respond to whether Cain would make his planned Monday appearances. His schedule included a tax-plan talk at American Enterprise Institute, a luncheon at the National Press Club and a healthcare briefing on Capitol Hill.

The Duty falls on the Person making a Claim, Assertion or Accusation to PROVE it, or provide evidence - NOT on the person accused or Denying its validity. Martin of Politico, Jeraldo and other Phony Journalists tend to fail in their duty to present facts -and draw baseless conclusions expecting us to consider people "GUILTY until they are Proven INNOCENT"

Cain has almost certainly done NOTHING worthy of complaint or someone wuld present more specifics or evidence.

unless you stick to "INNOCENT until PROVEN GUILTY" you will make EVERYONE guilty of heinous crimes by assumption when 95% are only guilty of jay walking. This si one of our founders most important principles. Violating it only aids the destruction of our Freedom.

I am quite sure you didn't even believe that, because it is a lie...unless you mean all White men?

If men have a great need to tell pretty things to females. find an excort service and tell it to them, until you get it all out of your system. Then go home to your wife, girlfriend or female companion.

I just don't see why some persons should feel that they can touch, shout or express themselves towards another person that they don't know personally in any degree, simply because it gets them off in anyway it does it for them? I know there is free speech in our society, and freedom of expression, but some things can be modulated to meet some degree of decency and honor. Just saying. But I guess when the Catholic Church and now, Penn State, male-run institutions, are allowed to govern themselves, and not by the laws that govern the rest of us in America, I guess the rest if a non-issue for those same individuals? What a fine way to live in that type of society.

By the way, I love how in that episode of Seinfeld, they could be so un-PC, as long as they added the: "Not that there's anything wrong with it" after it or any other remark.

Three things are facts:
1. The NRA paid-off two women that came to HR, to accuse Herman Cain of sexual harassment.

2. Herman Cain left the NRA before his contract was up, but would not add to that reason.

3. He has first denied not knowing any of these four women, but later added that one came up the level of his wife's height.

So we'll see where the shoe will drop on him and this matter. One thing is for sure and you can bank on it. He won't win the Presidency in 2012. The New Tea Party folks wants America to think that they are past the Good Ol' Southern Boys rhetoric about race, but with our current President, they have been through one of their nightmares and will not repeat it for awhile again.

Not that any of these New Tea Party folks, voted in Barack Hussein Obama in 2008.

Even if the settlement amount was $9-9-9, I would plea on his behalf to allow the truth to surface before passing any judgement. Democrats inclusive.

$999. is where Cain, came up with the number. Thinking about the pay-off by the NRA.

Cain you've already painted yourself into a corner, you might as well come out with the truth now instead of later because it is painfully obvious you are trying to hide something. DUH we are not stupid even if you think we are.

Herman seems to have trouble remembering.....I wonder what Mrs. Cain could tell us and why haven't we seen her....all the other GOPer's have, why is Mrs. Cain not available???

Like Judge, Judy saids, If you don't lie, you wouldn't have trouble remembering the details or making up new lies to cover up for the last ones.

Well, he only saw the back of her head, give him a break. The women didn't complain and there is evidence that Monica may have seduced him! He didn't offend any of them and they entered willingly into a relationship with him. Herman, on the other hand is guilty of a crime and had to have a gag order, no pun intended, I'm sure he made many women gag at the prospect of any contact with him!
06:03 AM on 11/01/2011
wow It sure seems like guilty till proven innocent here , I am not a fan of any republican candidate myself , but . where is the actual proof he did anything wrong ??
08:42 AM on 11/01/2011
It is not guilt until proven innocent, it is that he believes he can get away with saying nothing and everyone is just supposed to accept this. He is running for the most powerful job in the nation and if he has any skeletons, they will be revealed. The voting public is not just going to give him a pass because he wants one.
04:16 PM on 11/01/2011
"He is running for the most powerful job in the nation and if he has any skeletons, they will be revealed...."

You mean like how John Edwards' 'skeleton' was revealed while he was running for presidency? John Edwards was having an affair AND had an illegitimate child. Yet none of THAT was revealed while he was running for office. Only after. Liberal media for you.
05:54 PM on 11/01/2011
Herman Cain, needs to speak to the media and speak up or he'll be the kind of political candidate like, quitter, Sarah Palin.
04:16 AM on 11/01/2011
are." But in another contradictory statement, he admitted he knew of only one complaint.
Herman Cain claims, "If the women received payouts for their claims of sexual harassment, it must have been done by people under me. I never knew about it ... don't know who these women
Huh? Cain would have us believe his subordinates paid out claims, without his knowledge? TWICE? And they never even asked him about it? That doesn't pass the laugh test. The average person in the interview room on The First 48 will give a more convincing story.

I know of no sexual harassment case in history where the accused was never informed of the charges against him or her. We are to believe people under Cain decided -- "Let's just pay these two women tens of thousands of dollars to settle their claims, and not tell our boss about it."

Even in this multi cultural society, even a famous type can't get a free pass on BS like this. He's caught in a blatant lie, and it will only get worse when the women come forward and start talking, and people see they're on the level.

BTW, I said in May on this site -- "Cain has never held office, meaning he's never been properly vetted. Any day now it will be revealed he either stole money or was involved in a seedy scandal, or both.!

....to add!

If the names come out and they are found by the media. It would be very interesting if there are reason they don't speakout? Witness tampering, scare tactics, etc.!
Wonder if no names can be produced as if it never happend? Well then it would be interesting to find where the story started from?
03:46 AM on 11/01/2011
As a black man who survived cancer , twice, I can say this is clealy a huge offence to me as a black individual . I got cancer from secondhand smoke in the workplace and my father died as a result of cancer as well. For him to have this man on his ticket and smoking on camera is an offront to me and others like me.
05:55 PM on 11/01/2011
Amen.
03:35 AM on 11/01/2011
I stand on the fact that Cain does not represent me or many black people I know. If this is his way of clearing up an issue that does not pander to excuses but demands a yes or no answer than he should quit right now, Or him and Dominique Strass-Kahn could start their own escort services. After all, he is following the playbook of this white man when he intends to bore America with dodging and weaving the issues until declared a non-isssue and he goes on like nothing happened.
This is no way to treat women of color , nor any woman for that matter.
In addition, Cain has made his position quite clear when auditing the Federal Reserve is an issue, He doesnt think its necessary and will not support it, Translation: I like the white man for his money and wont cause him any discomfort by asking him whats up his sleeve.
With actions like these , I think PH Cain should change his name , to, Presidential Hopeful Mark of Cain, It suits him a lot better.
