2011 Ultimate Game Changer in Green and "Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder does more than glower at the screen and revel in his teen heartthrob status. This Louisiana native is passionate about the environment. Somerhalder was active in the cleanup efforts in the Gulf after the 2010 oil spill, speaking out in PSAs, raising money for animal shelters and local communities on his birthday, and testifying before congress about the H.R. 50, the Multinational Species Conservation Funds Reauthorization Act. This year, he also started the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, an ambitious effort with many areas of focus that include educating kids about the environment, funding global conservation efforts, and greening the entertainment industry.

Fore more on Somerhalder, and his game-changing efforts, check out the video above.

Do you know what?? I find it inspiring that Ian is willing to take a stand a do something for what he believes in, If more people did this it would bring it to many more peoples attention to also make a change. Ian keep up the good work, you are as gorgeous on the inside as you look on the outside and are doing a fantastic job. Iv been following you on twitter and the Foundation you have created is brilliant, showing people how small changes create huge ones and bringing things we know about but choose not to see to the front of our minds!! Thanks Ian x x

We need more celebrities like him, who actually try to make a difference in this world. Using celeb status for good. :)

Ian Somerhalder is such an amazing guy and fully deserves this title. Many people see him as the hot face found on their tv's on thursday nights, but by just following him to Twitter, you see he's so much more. He uses this outlet and his fame for good, in order to educate others about whats going on in the world around them. I am so glad to have the honor of being able to see his posts and look at all the things he finds important, as I'm sure many other people are as well. Every day I look forward to reading what new things he has on Twitter, but not because he's a hot celebrity (totally is though) but because he is the most down-to-earth person I know of. He is someone that people should aspire to be, because he shows that even though you may be just one person, you can do alot by spreading the news and just plain caring. So I raise my (imaginary) glass to the man who is making the world a better place and is teaching people like me to be more aware of what's going on. At 21, I'm now aware of more things now than I would at 30, and I owe it all to him. Ian is my role model, my hero, and the one person I want to meet before I die. Congratulations Ian, I can't imagine it going to a better man!

Very proud to be a supporter of Ian and the ISF. Since the oil explosion, I have been following him to see if what I saw on the commercials and the Larry King Telethon were from someone real or just adding their name; I was so very happy to find he was the first. I was an ISF supporter from day one and believe I was the first donator on 12/8/10. The southern roots of my expanded family were going through another tragic event, not even recovered from Katrina yet, and Ian was the voice that we were looking for. I will always remember the beginning of this journey and will always tell people they need to be part of this wonderful ISF Family because my Vamp is Green, animal friendly, educating/interacting with the ISF Kids Army who are just wanting to be heard, and finally, there is no stronger "Family" across the Twitterverse. We love you Ian & congratulations; you deserve this. :)
