Bill Maher's 80s Movies: Vintage Clips Of Comedian Dancing, Killing, More (VIDEO)

Bill Maher

Before he was named one of the 40 greatest standup comedians of all time, became an Emmy nominee and found his voice as one of the most wry political commentators of our time, Bill Maher was an actor.

And he made some amazingly cheesy TV shows and movies.

As the host of "Real Time" climbed his way up the standup ladder, he tried his hand at Hollywood's more traditional career path, first appearing in the 1983 film "DC Cab." The film, about a bunch of cab drivers in, you guessed it, DC, is most memorable for its amazingly time-appropriate cast, which featured Mr. T and Gary Busey.

Other notable moments in his acting career include, "Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death," and a two episode turn in "Murder She Wrote." But we'll let you take a look for yourself (hat tip to The Back Stage for the tip).

WATCH:

"Pizza Man"

"Murder She Wrote" (as a bonus, this includes the Big Lebowski)

"Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death"

"Out of Time"

"Rags to Riches"

How many scenes were done when he was stoned?

I'm a liberal... Bill Maher is NOT funny. Interesting? Heck Yes. Funny? Never.

His jokes are corny and you can tell he doesn't even write or deliver them well.

I love his show though... its great to hear opposing points of view, debated face to face, with passionate people that have SELF CONTROL (I'm looking at you Olbermann and O'Reily).

typical Maher hater : "I love his show" and always watch it.

some people would consider him "vulgar".
Is that what you're talking about?

He has a fast wit and is funny, but not all people are
going to like it.

I agree. ...his humor isn't cringeworthy enough to ruin anything, but humor is not why I'm watching. It's the topics and the interactions with guests.

Why did Bill have Ron Christie on Real Time? What does Chris Matthews have him on Hardball? Ron Christie hasn't made a sensible argument since how know when?

He hasn't made a sensible argument ever.

That's what I've always thought about him, but he was on Hardball this week and he totally trashed Herman. Big surprise.

well, at least HP has buried this "Story" and has it off the front page. It's still yellow journalism witth a headline torn from todays National Enquirer. Just get rid of it entirely and admit it was a really stupid idea, OK?

Some of my favorite moments on Real Time are when Bill references his terrible movie phase -- he has a great sense of humor about it. A lot of his apparent "ego" is very tongue-in-cheek. Love the guy.

I love Bill Maher. He is one intelligent, funny guy.

Ah, yes!! "Cannibal Women in the Avacado Jungle of Death". I actually saw this movie. It was so bad I am surprised it has not become a cult classic. Even the fruit looked plastic. But - that was when he had more of a light hearted sense of humor - and that was great. As the years have gone by, he has become somewhat less flippant, much more serious about politics (of course) and I miss the earlier Bill. I am not discounting the impact he has on the political discourse - it is important as are Stewart and Colbert.

You mean to say that comedians sometimes act in movies. Go figure.

This is the kind of mindless garbage under a misleading headline that makes me ashamed to be caught reading the HuffPo. Signing off... to go wash my brain out with soap!
