Colin Quinn Rips Will Ferrell On Twitter: He Stole 'Anchorman,' Has Drug Problem

First Posted: 11/01/11 04:43 PM ET Updated: 11/01/11 10:17 PM ET

UPDATE II: Quinn clarified his remarks in a tweet this evening, writing, "To all media etc.. Will Ferrell was not on drugs at snl! I never even saw him smoke a joint! Is this what it's come to???"

Of course, he also earlier tweeted media reports of his initial comments, so he's had fun encouraging and then discouraging reporting on his tweets. Which, presumably, is the whole point: having fun.

UPDATE: In a bit of meta journalism/comedy, Colin Quinn retweeted the link to this article. Which mostly likely proves that he's joking, and thrusts this article into being part of the story. Fun!

PREVIOUSLY: Colin Quinn is well known for his facetious Twitter persona, writing sarcastic commentary and then promoting the angry tweets he gets from fans. Which begs the question: is his latest rant for real?

The former "SNL" star, Comedy Central host and recent stage star ripped fellow "SNL" alum Will Ferrell in a series of tweets on Tuesday afternoon, accusing him of doing drugs and stealing ideas.

"No,I'm happy for Will....we never really got along at SNL because he took so many of my ideas, but.." he wrote after asking fans if they had seen Ferrell's Mark Twain Award ceremony. "Will was into a lot of bad drug stuff and I don't know if he still is. Actually, not true I happen to know he still is very much so."

Quinn continued, saying, "The years I was at SNL Lorne was really kind of messed up over various things and I was the shot caller. And that's real."

After his characteristic retweeting of angry fans, he added, "Feel bad about the Will Ferrell comments. I'll never mention him again if he pays me my residuals for the WHOLE ANCHORMAN CONCEPT!" and then retweeted a number of people ripping his comments. Next, he wrote, "If success is measured in awards and that jazz, I guess it's true, I'm not where I want to be. ( still hoping lol ) but it is what it is."

So, what does it all mean? Is Quinn really angry, or just doing a bit of public performance art (which would be pretty hilarious, given his MO)? What do you think?

I was never a Quinn fan, but even I can tell he was joking.

Good lord how thick are journalists nowadays? Whether or not you think it was funny Colin Quinn was obviously joking from the start.

I just want to highlight the following sentence from the article:

"Colin Quinn is well known for his facetious Twitter persona, writing sarcastic commentary and then promoting the angry tweets he gets from fans. Which begs the question: is his latest rant for real?"

This is either brilliant or idiotic depending on whether the author knows what question begging is.

Quinn is not funny. He just doesn't get that. He's not funny. Many poeple around him went on to sucess because they had talent. He didn't because he isn't funny. Not a crime to not be funny but the insane jealousy thing is really embarrassing for him.

You're in the wrong line of work. You're not funny.

This coming from the unfunniest "comedian" (ahem) in the world.

Quinn talks in rapid-fire fashion, with the added benefit of sounding like he has a mouthful of marbles, which is why his career is where it is today.

These are the first words from Quinn anyone could actually understand in decades, and he has to waste them talking nonsense. Going back to Brooklyn, Brooklyn, Brooklyn, I should think so...

Colin is a comedian, let's not forget. To all media and journalist...What do you expect when you're reporting Twitter as if it were 'news'? Get a clue.

Is he? Really?

Don't you have to make people laugh to be considered a comedian?

I don't find Ferrell funny. (say that fast five times). I keep waiting for him to deliver that belly rolling laugh line and it just does't happen. His comedy is juvenile at best and I fail to see how he would ever be in the same company as Richard Prior, Carl Reiner or Bob Newhart to name a few,let alone win comedy's most prestegiou award. There's no accounting for taste I guess.

Colin Quinn is about as funny as a bone in a McRib sandwich. I think he should mate up with Kathy Griffin they're like twins, both are ugly as a warthog, loud mouthed and bitter. Colin's only gig is appearing on twitter because he's got no other venue. So go suck on those sour grapes Mr. Quinn!

This is almost as earthshattering as Kim Kardashian's divorce. If Farrell stole Anchorman, why would one make that public? The movie was atricious. It's not as if he stole Gone With The Wind. This is a case of a c list celeb bashing a b list celeb. Yawn

If it was your bad movie concept and he stole the idea and made millions you'd care, believe me. But once you get the keys to the lot you have to do a helluva lot wrong before they take the keys back. A couple more movies from him should do it.

Just take a look at how badly will farrell has aged - are you all stupid?

I just read his tweets. He's joking. It's obvious. Is he bitter? Mayhaps. Is his twisty sense of humor being blown out of proportion? Most definitely.

He accused Lewis Black of ripping him off also. He said the "Back and Black" thing was his idea. He seems to be very bitter to me. I'd like to see his comments as satire..but..how? Is he pretending to be a washed up comic who could've made it big if so many hadn't stolen his ideas? Is that his character? Or is that just him?
