The 13 Countries That Request The Most User Data From Google

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 11/03/11 05:02 PM ET   Updated: 11/03/11 05:02 PM ET

Between January and June 2011 Google received 15,640 requests for user information from countries around the globe. The search giant makes this information available to the public in their biannual Transparency Report.

User information requests vary greatly between countries. While Switzerland, for example, sits at the bottom of the list with only 36 requests for user data from Google, the country that tops the list (see slideshow) requested a staggering 5,950 pieces of data from more than 11,000 user accounts. This data-hungry country's requests are up nearly a quarter from the last report, according to ZDNet. Google complied with 93 percent of this country's requests.

A separate part of Google's Transparency Report deals with governments' content removal requests. Google tends to comply with far fewer of these directives than it does general requests to view data about users. In the United States, for example, law enforcement officials requested that Google remove a YouTube video allegedly showing police brutality; Google refused to pull the video. In the Transparency Report, Google says that it doesn't comply with removal requests that are too vague or informal and that it sometimes requires the government to product a court order before content is pulled.

Check out the slideshow (below) to see which countries requested that Google hand over the most information about users.

Awolnation - SAIL Unite Remix was removed from YouTube, yesterday. It had a lot of content from the G20 in Canada. Probably the RCMP had it done or the CIA. I am sure Canada is guilty also.

Why a surprise as these falsely claimed free democratic countries use obscene amounts of the peoples money to spy on their own populations under the guise of national security.......... Just another major reason to take back the country by expanding and supporting OWS...............

Since one of my amazon accounts is shared among 5 different people, the 'you might also like' suggestions that amazon comes up with for that account are insane.
