First Posted: 11/01/11 05:44 PM ET   Updated: 11/01/11 06:43 PM ET

The Audit Bureau of Circulations released its semiannual circulation report on Tuesday. As usual, national daily newspapers led the pack. The latest figures cover the six months that ended on September 30. Some newspapers, such as the New York Times, saw boosts to their circulations due to their digital paywalls, which boosted subscription numbers.

Below, view the top 25 U.S. newspapers.

USA Today is not a newspaper. It is only in the top 5 because Hotels insist on putting it in front of your door. (Kinda like FOX (not) News has such high ratings because it is locked on in so many businesses)
I recently spent a week in LA and was reminded that it is a very quality newspaper.
As the daughter of a Newspaper man (Outdoor Editor of our towns paper for 30 years), I have always been and will always be a fan of Print Media. If you don't understand the attraction, it is your loss. Ben Franklin's son was imprisoned for printing his paper. In the time leading up to and during the American Revolution, Printers were routinely snatched from their homes and placed upon a ship bound for England with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Their Presses were burned. Whether or not you read Newspapers, they should be respected for their Power. If and when the stuff hits the fan, don't be surprised to see them make a comeback. Newspapers don't require batteries.

extra points if you know who put Ben's son in jail without having to look it up!

Was he imprisoned for supporting the Tories? I know Ben disowned him when he opposed the revolution. Seems to me he might have been arrested in New Jersey. It has been a while since I read about it.

Did you know that Ben Franklin was in England when the first Tea Party crazies -- hooligans all -- did their thing. He took them seriously regarding their slogan: "Taxation without representation is tyranny," so he negotiated representation in the British Parliament. The TP folks, of course, meant nothing of the kind. They meant they wanted no taxes, period. An angry mob descended on Franklin's Philadelphia home and would have burned it down, were it not ably defended by Mrs. Franklin with a gun.

After the exposure of Murdoch's rags' magnificent rorting of circulation figures, and their defense that everyone does it, what is the point of any of this?

If this were before Murdoch had bought Dow Jones & Company, I would agree with this 100%. Up until then, the Journal was probably one of the most, if not THE most, veritable news sources in the world. But, since it's now owned by Murdoch, it's just another conservative media outlet, no matter how slightly

I was wondering when you would show up. There is nothing "Far-Left" about the NYT. I think it's the fact that you're "Far Right"

By various forces more will all be gone soon. Murdoch and his goons will do some, while functional obsolesence will do others.

Nice to see that so many papers are West Coast papers. No surprise though.

The left has never dominated print media in America. Anyone who has read newspapers over any period of time knows this.
