Fox has renewed "The X Factor" for a second season, the network announced on Wednesday.

Simon Cowell was extremely pleased with this latest development, saying, "I am absolutely thrilled with the news."

Network executive Mike Darnell called the show a "monumental success" and the renewal a "complete no-brainer." He praised, "Simon and his team have done an incredible job with the show, and I’m absolutely thrilled to bring back THE X FACTOR for another fantastic season.”

Deadline reports that the show was the top reality show on broadcast television this fall, averaging over 13 million viewers. Before the premiere, Cowell had said that he considered anything less than 20 million viewers "a disappointment," but later said that he was happy with the results.

Cowell exited "American Idol" in 2010, and went on to create "The X Factor."

I flip over to it during commercials of the shows I normally watch. Too much like American Idol, but there are a few very talented people turning up. The judges, with the exception of what's-his-name the record producer, are pretty boring.

Yes, their website is incerdibly slow and a huge a disaster and the show is way too over produced. So much so that it takes away from the performances. I watch the show because of one singer from Sunrise, Florida named Melanie Amaro but if it weren't for her I'd be tuning out even though I love singing and talent competitions like Idol, America's Got Talent and The Voice. Pull back on the over-the-top production on the show and it will be better.

One more thing... Melanie Amaro was initially eliminated and brought back as Simon admitted to a huge mistake. That was a setup from the beginning. They were never going to let Melanie go as she's the best there is on the show and will most likely win the whole thing. If they are going to call it a reality show then they should make sure it's real and not a predictable publicity stunt.

tried to watch for the first time this week - wow, it's bad, only one of the contestants was marginally talented, a very contrived rip off

It's worth watching just to see goofy Paula Abdul.------------She's comedy gold.

I have watched some x-factor--I slogged through most of the audition episodes, skipped the "judges house" shows, then picked it up again at the top 12. It was interesting seeing Simon be an invested mentor instead of a (usually) snarky critic. Beyond that....errr....well. I fast-forward almost everything except the performances.

I tried to watch it a few times but just couldn't get into it. All these shows are cookie cutter it seems.

It is a bad knock-off. Production numbers with awful accompaniment music and screaming audience members is almost as hard on the ears as the contestants. Only four acts are worthy.

I got through one episode. That was one too many. It's a watered down, derivative rip off, not nearly as enjoyable as it's inspiration, American Idol.

I'll never watch Idol again, but Simon- what a disappointment! The show is excruciatingly painful to watch- so contrived, scripted, and offensive. Kids and rap have no business being on these shows- the music in general is bland, soulless, I feel like I'm watching a telethon. Simon- if you're not insulting someone, you're useless. Nicole is old Paula- I can't stand her either. Watching this show, amazingly, also makes you realize how good Seacrest is at his job. The phony pauses and contrived suspense- well, I just don't care. Last night was the last time I'll watch one of these shows. I prefer to listen to music- real music.

I appreciate the mentoring aspect but the performances by the pools were a bit degrading to the contestants. Not really into the groups.

I don't understand why this says 5 comments when there's only 3 posted and none pending. I'm not that good at math, but even I can count from 0 to 3.
