After a man with a gun was spotted 200 feet from Middletown High School in Middletown, Del., school officials have put the building on lockdown, NBC Philadelphia reported.

The lockdown went into effect at about 2 p.m. and was lifted shortly after, once police arrested the suspect, Delaware Online reported.

Principal Jim Comegys told the publication that most school activities continued normally during the period, and once the all-clear was issued, classes resumed until dismissal.

Diana Favitz lives in the neighborhood and told WDEL that she feared for her life.

"An undercover cop comes from behind the car, another cop comes from behind the car with his gun ... and they're yelling at us 'get back, to get back, to get back,' Favitz told the station.

Police subdued the suspect by firing a bean bag at him. It turns out the gunman was carrying a BB gun that resembled a real gun.
