Michelle Williams: Men Hate My Short Hair (PHOTOS)

Sometimes men just don't get it.

Michelle Williams has been rocking the short hair since May 2010, when she debuted her current cropped cut at the Cannes Film Festival (although she dabbled in the pixie in 2007).

As females, we love the short style -- women tend to admire the boldness of the look, the ease of styling and just how chic short hair can be. But men? Not so much. Michelle tells Elle UK in the December issue:

"I've really grown into it - I feel like myself with short hair. And it's been a really long time since I had long hair, five years...

Of course, the only people who like it are gay men and my girlfriends. Straight men across the board are not into this hair! I cut it for the one straight man who has ever liked short hair and I wear it in memorial of somebody who really loved it."

Knowing that the cut is for Heath Ledger, how could you not love the haircut?

Too bad for you. After her performance in "BrokeBack Mountain", she has nothing left to prove as a dramatic actress. Her screen time was brief, but she hit hard.

Too many women with super short haircuts look like young boys. I hate the style and do not see why women like this look. There are short, pretty hairstyles, then there are short, boyish hairstyles.

I've heard this comment more than once from women. Never from men. Different hairstyles suit different women. Long or short doesn't matter though some can pull it off better than others.

I think it becomes her very well. She looks elegant and unique. Not everyone can wear short hair. One has to have the right face shape and features. A slender neck helps too. And it's certainly much easier to care for and gives a sense of freedom--at least it did to me when I cut mine really short once.

I had long frizzy hair for around 30 years. My girlfriends all hated it, and goaded me into cutting it. I finally did (with Valium and wine as support). Just kidding, but I was shaking. Well, now I LOVE it short, and my husband is VERY sad. He keeps a picture of me in my long frizzy hair next to our bed.
So, Michelle is right about men! My girlfriends think, and I think, I look 10 years younger. My husband thinks...."damn".

Unfortunately some people see short hair on women, and general male type looks, as her treading on sacred male territory. Next she'll be having opinions and wanting equal pay and all sorts of horrors. They are only comfortable when she sticks to traditiomnal female behaviour. In other words...when she knows her place. They pretend it's about the looks while really it's about the disobedience to her defined role. People get all worried when people step out of their gender roles. Relax...be brave everyone and move into the 21st century. Change is good. Exagerated gender roles have had their day and need to go the way of the dinosaur.

I agree, I cut off ALL my hair and my dad flipped out! I wore it fade short for about two years. I finally started letting it grow back but I rocket it in a cute curly fro. I recently got my hair pressed and for the first time in three years my dad said something positive about my hair. It went like, "You'll, look at her, my baby looks like a girl again, she don't look like a boy no more"...I guess when you have lived over 70 years you say what you want. I think the funnies was when I guy told me that he don't like women like me (short hair) but I made the cut look good...men just know what to say...lol

I would cut my hair that short right now if I could look as cute as she does.
She looks to have taken on a pixie style to match the pixie hairdo too.
A style that seems her own and is refreshing.

The short hair looks great on her. She has thin hair - when she wears it long it doesn't frame her face very well and looks scraggly. The short her is perfect for her face and looks lovely. It also makes her look a few years younger.
