The Huffington Post     First Posted: 11/03/11 09:23 PM ET   Updated: 11/03/11 09:59 PM ET

Chevrolet has been churning out cars for a century now. For 100 years, dependable Chevys have been taking their owners everywhere -- to work, back home, to the grocery store and to the movies. And many Chevrolet cars have even made it to the spotlight. While some celebrity Chevys went on to glory, others crashed and burned. Take a look at the best movie scenes with El Caminos, Corvettes and more, and vote for your favorite.

Happy birthday, Chevy!

Louis Chevrolet I believe ended up working on a Chevy assembly line, lost control of the company with his name on it. So typical of the geniuses being taken out by the connivers. Same thing happened with Sarnoff and Armstrong, Omidyar and Woolston.

Anyone else notice that since State Street Bank is no longer the Big Player at GM, there is almost always happy happy media coverage of GM?
Wonder who the new big common stock owners at GM are (not the government, who the real owners now are...)

They left all the best chevy scenes off the list. How about that scene in Caddyshack when he hits the ball into Bill Murray's apartment? Or tying Aunt Edna to the roof of the car in Vacation?

OMG, you cannot forget the greatest chevy movie ever, Dante's Peak. Let's see, Brosnan starts out using his snorkel equipped Suburban to drive through a raging mountain river and then up a nearly vertical embankment. Then he switches to an old Chevy pickup that he uses to DRIVE MILES ACROSS MOLTEN LAVA, saving the family dog in the process. He then uses his the Chevy to accompany some original GM Hummers jumping a bridge across a flood-swelled river that is in the process of eating a two-story home. He then wedges the Chevy into a tunnel, wherein IT SUPPORTS THE ENTIRE WEIGHT OF THE COLLAPSING VOLCANO. Just when you think everyone is dead, you see the headlights gloriously shine through the dust to reveal the great Chevy bowtie logo on the grille. Everyone is saved by the strength of the Chevy cab. Oh everyone lives, that is, if you're not driving a cheap competitor's vehicle. Drive a dodge and lava balls easily pop through the pathetic tinfoil top and kill your passenger. Drive a Dodge Ram van and you pathetically spin your wheels as the river sucks you in. Greatest Chevy film ever? Dante's Peak = Drive Chevy or die.

Yeah but now that they managed to take ownership away from State Street Bank I'll bet we'll be seeing a lot more positive media coverage of GM. Look who controls the US media and you'll likely find similar people now owning GM.

I was hoping to find '67 Impala. Black. From Supernatural.

...a '67 Impala that police never seem to be able to locate when the APB is out on Sam and Dean. You know how a glossy black Impala with dual exhaust just blends in with all the other vehicles out there.

Better Off Dead is still my favorite John Cusack's movie.

Lane Myer: Two brothers... One speaks no English, the other learned English from watching "The Wide World of Sports." So you tell me... Which is better, speaking no English at all, or speaking Howard Cosell?

I would chant "U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!" right now but a quick look at the MSO (Manufacturer's Statement of Origin) for my 2001 Camaro SS shows that it was manufactured in Ontario, Canada.

"N-A-F-T-A! N-A-F-T-A! N-A-F-T-A!"

My first car was a 71 Monty Carlo. It was the most comfortable drive I have ever had.

I once bought a '65 Pontiac Catalina(tuna barge) for $50 with a seized engine(??). Put 5 quarts of oil in it, charged the battery, and off we went. Only problem with those model years is that the brakes weren't quite as good as they could have been. Also had a 68 DeVille, and while neither car is a 'Chevy', all were built in the GM tent, built to last, durable. Only problem was, they all drank gas like it was going out of style. It'd be cool to see a 'retro' Malibu hybrid, though. Chrome bumpers, hubcaps, and 40+MPG. That'd turn some heads. Or an Impala, again, vintage bodystyle. Runs on Unobtainium.
