Conan O'Brien On Argentine Mate Tea: 'Is This Marijuana?'

Conan O'Brien tries Argentine tea in a new segment, and like many first time mate-drinkers, wonders if it is marijuana.

In a segment devoted to Chinese food delivery people in New York, Conan meets an Argentinean woman whom he calls "very beautiful." Hanging out of her apartment window, she greets Conan with an hola to which he replies "como estas?" at around 4:30 in the above video. He grabs mate (pronounced mah-tay) and instead of drinking from the bombilla or straw, he goes straight for the cup.

When the Argentine woman indicates to drink through the straw, he asks, "Is this marijana?" to the audience's delight. He says mate is fantastic and then stumbles off in a haze dream sequence induced by the Argentine tea.

Conan, LatinoVoices can assure you it's not marijuana. But, we agree, mate is fantastic.
