Obama: Iran Nuclear Program Poses Continued Threat

Obama Iran Nuclear Program

By JIM KUHNHENN   11/ 3/11 06:32 AM ET   AP

CANNES, France -- President Barack Obama says Iran's nuclear program continues to pose a threat, and that he and the president of France want the international community to keep pressuring Iran to come clean about its intentions.

Obama commented Thursday as the International Atomic Energy Agency was preparing to soon reveal intelligence on Iran's alleged nuclear arms experiments.

Iran has consistently denied that it is trying to build nuclear weapons. It insists its program is for peaceful purposes.

The U.S., Britain and France want the IAEA to share what it knows. Russia and China are pressing for the report to be delayed or scrapped entirely.

Obama mentioned Iran as he spoke in Cannes, France, after meeting one-on-one with French President Nicolas Sarkozy (sar-koh-ZEE') on the sidelines of a global economic summit.

Russian agencies report that in IAEA report to be released next week will be documented that Iranian scientists were conducting sophisticated computer modeling of nuclear warheads that is usually part of warhead design process. Among other documents will be images of a container unit used in testing nuclear components taken by satellites. Container been located on the territory of Islamic Republic of Iran and presumably at Parchin base near Tehran.

>> Russian agencies report that in IAEA report to be released next week will be documented that Iranian scientists were conducting sophisticated computer modeling of nuclear warheads that is usually part of warhead design process.

Old news. First of all, the Rissians have been insisting Iran is not producing nukes for years.

The warhead design BS was debunked by Gareth Porter. It was based on the Sahab 3 missile. The forgeries were exposed because the forgers were unaware at the time that the Iranians were already working on the Sadab 4.

These forgeries BTW. came by way of a stolen laptop (that has never been forensically examined) , which was provided by the MEK (a terrorist group that the CIA says cannot be trusted)

Yeah sure. Just like the Syrian building we were told was a nuclear reator that turned out to be a textile factory.

I love it when we are shown aerial photos of buildings that look like any other and told what is inside them.

I just read the Haaretz Report you are paraphrased Greg,

Things that immediately stand out as BS.

1. The IAEA has inspectors in Iran. Why haven't they inspected the alleged large steel container they believe could be used for nuclear arms-related high explosives tests? And if the Iranians have prevented such inspections, why was Iran's lack of cooperation not reported?

2. The "dual use" - peaceful or military - nuclear technology from A. Q. Khan are called centrifuges. All of which are under IAEA oversight.

3. That report mentions the "possible existence in Iran of past or current undisclosed nuclear related activities" which is not only a repeat of previous accusations against Iran, but is as vague and non committal as one can get.
3.

Obama in search of another exciting war "victory" to give himself a boost in the polls in 2012 because Libya didn't massage the numbers enough? It's all about domestic politics and Iran is a convenient diversion from real economic nightmares. Plenty of us will stay home next November if the only choice is between lousy and pure awful, and the economy comes first on election day with the vast majority of Americans and not international bogeymen.

Since all these middle east countries are such a threat to the U.S. , maybe our middle east policy should be changed?

either all countries should have them or no one.

the usa is no better than any other country. we were the only ones to use nukes so that says we cant be trusted with them either.

the usa should give theirs up. the world will be a safer place.

Oil is traded in dollars. The US presence in the Middle East makes the US dollar de-facto backed by oil (obviously no longer gold). Without US involvement in the ME, the dollar is not substantiated by much at all...

I don't like it, but that's how it is...
