Saint Helena, Island Where Napoleon Died, To Get Airport

Saint Helena, a remote U.K.-owned island in the southern Atlantic, is finally getting an airport.

The island, which was home to Napoleon until his death in 1821, is currently only accessible via sea, the BBC reports.

Located some 1,800 miles away from Brazil (1,200 from west Africa), the island hopes the airport will bring in some 30,000 tourists annually (the current tally stands at 900, according to the BBC).

The airport is being built for roughly 200 million Pounds by a South African company named Basil Read in conjunction with the UK government. International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell told the UK Press Association that the design will save some 20% from the airport's original design, which was shelved due to costs in 2008.
