Bill Cosby: 'It Comes Down To Love'

Bill Cosby's Guide To Being A 'Genius' Mom

Bill Cosby set the standard high for all TV dads to follow as Dr. Huxtable on "The Cosby Show." He made us laugh often, cry occasionally, and did it all in spiffy sweaters.

Despite Dr. H's best laid plans to get Denise, Theo, Vanessa, Rudy, et. al. to leave home, he never got to enjoy the empty nest. The sitcom dad appeared in 197 episodes, making jokes about how it was time for them all to GO! And it turns out, that sentiment wasn't just comedy fodder. "You should try and raise your child strong and raise your child knowing there is an outside world," he told TODAYMoms this week.

Cosby appeared on the "Today Show" to talk about his new book "I Didn't Ask To Be Born, But I'm Glad I Was." While backstage, he talked about the ahem important stuff: parenthood. Or more specifically, motherhood?

He says that his wife Camille is brilliant, genius. That's we he loves about her most. And after 47 years of marriage, here's what she has taught him about being a great mom:

  • "You should keep your child prepared for the next step at all times."
  • When kids throw tantrums and you feel like giving up, always remember that "you do have quite a few years on the kid."
  • But in the end, "it comes down to love, understanding," he says.

Oh, Bill.
