Herman Cain 'High-Tech' Lynching Ad: Supporters Compare Candidate's Troubles To Clarence Thomas Hearings (VIDEO)

First Posted: 11/04/11 03:07 PM ET Updated: 11/04/11 05:25 PM ET

Some of Herman Cain's supporters have released a new ad that compares the Republican frontrunner's recent controversies to those of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and refers to the sexual allegations against Cain as a "high-tech lynching."

The ad fires back at the "mainstream media," compiling soundbites of high-profile black social activists insulting Cain, and accusing liberals of mudslinging instead of confronting policy issues. The video shows a clip of Cornel West telling CNN that Cain needs to get off "the social crack pipe" and Harry Belafonte saying Cain was "denied intelligence" on "The Joy Behar Show."

The video couples Thomas' speech clip with a warning to fellow Cain supporters, saying "Don't let the LEFT do it again."

The ad was created by Americans for Herman Cain, a group of supporters unaffiliated with Cain's campaign. The spot ends with a clip of Thomas' infamous "high-tech lynching" response during his confirmation hearings in 1991. Like Cain, Thomas was buffeted by allegations that he had sexually harassed his co-workers Supreme Court justice's 1991 hearing to investigate sexual harassment accusations from former co-worker Anita Hill. Thomas denied Hill's allegations and criticized the hearings as a "circus" and a "national disgrace."

According to ABC News, a spokesman for the organization said the ad will be emailed to 25,000 Republicans in Iowa, and run on television next week in the state as well as in a series of Internet ads.

Amazing the way some black people think these days. I am old school and love all my people but I am shocked at the hate we hold for some in our race because of political views. 55%unemployment in the youth community among blacks. We are in the worst economical situation ever.
Yet I see Ice tea on TV with a half naked white woman and it's cool. 70% out of wed births in the black communities, nobody seems to care cause we have a Democrat in the white house and he is well (African-American). I think about that term too.Am born and raised here yet I am told everything about America is against me.
High tech lynching is a good term for whats going on now in this case with Cain. We cheer on the black man with no moral character and hate the one who is up standing. Shout down anybody who speak of doing right.
2011 and America is still the same, only now the chains are not seen but felt.

You are suggesting Cain has a moral character? That he is upstanding?

I'm noticing a new breed of young black bloggers, and I'm noticing they can't seem to find anything that a black person can do right. I'm not saying that black is always right, but I will say that black is not always wrong. I will also say that you guys seem to have a fresh MISEDUCATION. just saying.

They may be breaking the chains that the government has put on them. All we have heard is promises and very little action. Maybe they are waking up and seeing that they are just a game piece.

to some SMALL degree you are right, but if you think it's merely our government then you're still asleep. you've got to understand that we (Americans) have been miseducated since the beginning of America. our founding fathers implemented a system of government and economics that will not work for the average American regardless of your race. this system insures that the wealthy will be the rulers and voices for America. we've always known we were game pieces, we just don't know what game we're the pieces to.

scrufty, you know you want get a lot of support from the bros. with your "wanabe unique" ideology. you like blaming Obama for our current problems. open your eyes cat, Obama's been the only president in your life time who actually understands the real problem with our system or at least he's trying to buck it. the problem is that the puppet master by way of their puppets (corrupt politicians) just will not allow Obama to do the right thing. be careful what you wish for.

'High-Tech Lynching' is a deplorable usage of language referring to the actual hanging of individuals of color, in the Post-Reconstruction and into the 20th century. Do we say this is a virtual "Nazi-showering" of him and o.k. that metaphor? Embarrassing revelations about you Cain is not an actual rope around your neck that real victims suffered. Shame on you,if you have any!

So, the language is deplorable? Not the actions? I see. So, it's ok to lynch a black man, via technology, we just can't say that is what you are doing? I see.
10:30 PM on 11/07/2011
??--- to clarify, you are comparing murder by the physical act of strangulation by a rope to a Politician being vetted by news reports (none of which have been disproven)

"Claims of sexual harassment by an employee about to be terminated are the easiest to make, the most difficult to refute, the most expensive to defend, and the most damaging to any executive on the receiving end of false charges. Hence, settling these charges, even when blatantly false, with a small payment and a mutual confidentiality and non-disparagement agreement is an everyday occurrence in the corporate world...

...five-figures is what you pay when the separation is amicable, as it is a bargain compared to defending false charges in litigation. In fact, the vast majority of the terminations I have been involved with typically included three to six months of severance pay plus medical benefits, even when such consideration wasn’t demanded or mandated by an employment contract. Hence, five-figure sums. The going rate to cover up guilt is at least six figures, sometimes even seven. Just ask former presidential candidate John Edwards...

...Who can forget the story of one of Lyndon Johnson’s early Congressional campaigns in which he spread the rumor that his opponent [engaged in bestiality]. “It couldn’t possibly be true!” a staffer complained. “I know,” said Lyndon, “but let’s make [him] deny it.”

"High-Tech" Lynching? This is just plain ole Sexual Harassment:
It is unlawful to harass a person (an applicant or employee) because of that person’s sex. Harassment can include “sexual harassment” or unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature. Harassment does not have to be of a sexual nature, however, and can include offensive remarks about a person’s sex. For example, it is illegal to harass a woman by making offensive comments about women in general. Both victim and the harasser can be either a woman or a man, and the victim and harasser can be the same sex. Although the law doesn’t prohibit simple teasing, offhand comments, or isolated incidents that are not very serious, harassment is illegal when it is so frequent or severe that it creates a hostile or offensive work environment or when it results in an adverse employment decision (such as the victim being fired or demoted). The harasser can be the victim's supervisor, a supervisor in another area, a co-worker, or someone who is not an employee of the employer, such as a client or customer.

While the left (even on this website) "hyperventilate" on Herman Cain and his "anonymous" and "vague" accuser from 15 years ago what has been happening this week at the OWS protest?

http://gothamist.com/2011/11/05/occupy_wall_street_erects_women-onl.php

http://www.greenwichtime.com/news/article/NYC-mayor-Protester-arrested-on-sex-abuse-charge-2251261.php

Protester Justin Stone-Diaz said he knew of two sexual assaults after which the female victims refused to file charges, leaving their fellow protesters — and the police — unable to take further action. The protesters gave the police department's liaison detailed information about the incidents, he said.

"As an organization we spent the whole day yesterday trying to convince them to press charges," Stone-Diaz said, but the women refused after initially getting what Stone-Diaz called "bad advice" from other protesters who urged the women not to work with police.

With no legal way to force the accused men out of the park, some protesters distributed flyers with their photos in an attempt to get them to leave so the women would not have to see them, Stone-Diaz said.

This of course only "alleged" and the there is the "presumption of innocent" BUT if your Herman Cain and you have three "anonymous" and "vague" accusers from 15 years ago that never went court, never went to the EEOC you "hyperventilate" and declare Cain "guility beyond reasonable doubt"!

This is what liberals call "fair and balanced"!

While the FBI is closing its books on many civil-rights cold cases; events where people were actually lynched - aka: Murdered, I am nauseated the Cain's supporters would use this kind of language. It was disgusting when Thomas used it in the 80's and it is disgusting now. Go talk to people who lost parents, grand parents and siblings to the KKK and other racist mobs what a "lynching" really is.
Being caught and asked to account for your own behavior is not a lynching.
The lesbian moms in Colorado that have had "Kill the Gays" spray-painted on their home and rope nooses left on their porch are closer to being lynched that either of these "gentleman".

Mr Cain was ready to call it quits before he became "the flavor of the week" candidate. In fact he spent more time in the early days of his campaign on his book tour than seriously running for the GOTP nomination.

Recently issues related to members of his campaign staff paying for i-pads, etal., to set up campaign headquarters' staff, who were not reimbursed, have come to light. This would be a violation of election regulations

Finally, he has taken on the Sarah Palin practice of telling those driving him hither and yon not to speak to him -- very telling, flashing red signals on the insecurity/arrogance/narcissism/rudeness scales.

In short, Mr. Cain is not qualified in any way (thus unqualified in every way) for the job of President of the United States. People who do not seek out and/or pay attention to information about candidates before cheering and supporting them, are not qualified to be considered informed voters.

Herman Cain:
No relevant experience (not one bit) to be considered as a candidate for President of the US. In fact he was way off the path to being considered as a possible successor to the Presidency of Pillsbury. The company spun off Godfather's pizza to not only could get rid of the business, but it also provided a graceful way to get rid of Mr. Cain at the same time. Also, Mr. Cain didn't know that China had nuclear weapons, although he's made a "clarifying statement" about that, in an attempt to try to back out of his obvious ignorance.

His denying, than suddenly remembering a day or two later, the sexual harassment issue with one woman is simply not credible. The example he gave of her issue being his comparison of her height to his wife's height would never result in a settlement the size of the one she reportedly received ($45,000). There was a lot more to it than her height. It is now undisputed there were two settlements. A third woman who did not file harassment charges, has recently alleged she experienced harassment from Mr. Cain while she worked at the National Restaurant Assoc. Finally, a man, who witnessed Mr. Cain in harassment mode, has been quoted saying it was embarrassing for him to witness and it was clearly sexual harassment. This is not a media lynching. This is a character flaw of consequence.

What a coincidence! That's exactly what I think about Barack Obama! At least Cain understands where jobs and money come from and how an economy works.

Barack Obama has nearly three years experience as a president of this country. I happen to think he has done an amazing job after stepping into the stinking mess left for him by the previous administration. He also has a constitutional law degree, a stellar education, experience in state government and as a US Senator, and he knows something about geography and atomic weapons. It will be a cold day in hell before anyone will ever accuse this honorable man, who is an excellent role model as a husband and father, of any kind of impropriety.

What a pile of garbage!! Wasn't Belafonte the guy who actually fell asleep during an interview on Fox awhile ago? I know I aint gonna listen to squat hes gotta say! Listen to him dodge the main issue, Its not about who is pointing the finger, its about what was done to those women! How long is this fool going to get air time for his preposterous ambition? He should be tried in a court of law along with other criminals.

There is no prejudice here. He is a presidential candidate who has allegedly committed sexual harrassment against multiple women. Just as everyone questioned President Clinton when he was running and after he was President, any candidate, Democrat or Republican, needs to address these allegations instead of trying to cover it up. If there was no harrassment, release these women (who were paid off) from their confidentiality agreement and let what happened be released to the public. If there is nothing to hide, let everything come out.

ALL OF YOU CAIN HATERS ARE A TRIP, YOU COME DOWN ON THE MAN INSTEAD OF TRYING TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT HIM

BECAUSE OF YOUR SELF RIGHTEOUS PREJUDICE TOWARD THE REPUBLICAN PARTY
REMEMBER THE SAME WAS AND IS DONE TO OBAMA

ITS NOT A THING ABOUT POLITICAL PARTY ITS ABOUT DIFFERING IDEALS AND WE AS BLACKS SHOULD NOT BE MIND NUMB ROBOTS WALKING TO THE BEAT OF ONE PARTY

ALSO KEEP IN MIND IF CAIN GETS THE REPUBLICAN NOMINATION IT WOULD BE AN UNPRECEDENTED TIME IN HISTORY WHERE THE REPRESENTING CANDIDATES FOR THE PRESIDENCY ARE BLACK

INSTEAD OF HAILING THE SIGNIFICANCE YOU DISMAY IT, BUT AS ALWAYS THE MENTALITY OF THE BLACK RACE IS LIKE CRABS IN A BARREL

TRYING TO BRING SOMEONE DOWN, WHEN YOU SEE THEM ON TOP.

Oh my goodness! It is not blacks on the left or right who are doing this to Cain. It's Cains' history and only his history that is doing it to him. Any presidential candidate would have this come out if he/she were running for the RNC/DNC nomination. So give it and your screaming a rest WILL YOU!

I am NOT feeling dismay over Cain. I can think of nothing better for this country than to have Herman Cain running against Obama for the presidency next year. It will assure Obama's victory!
Moreover, since he will not need to run again, Obama can finally pull hard left and uphold the rest of those promises made in 2008.

Folks the only reason the right is rallying behind this man is because they desperately desperately need someone anybody who isn't a white man to say the crap that only a minority can get away with.....someone they can manipulate and prop up as a cover...until something better comes along. At first if was Michelle and believe me, if Herman hadn't come along, she would still be the one they'd all rally behind....but Cain turned out to be a much better sock to manipulate, because dude seems like he'd do anything for attention!!

But make no mistakes here folks....Cain will not get the nod. And if he does??? Don't ever think that white people understand blacks.
04:14 PM on 11/06/2011
We don't really care if we understand blacks. We're assuming that down deep, people are really pretty much the same, since we all have the same ancestors, Adam and Eve, and then later, Noah. Anyway, we are supposed to be a post-racial society. duhhhh!!!! Democrats really don't believe that, though, do they?

What we do care about is finding a man of character to be our candidate. You want to know one thing that conservatives find so compelling about Cain? In the words of Telegraph columnist Toby Harnden, "they appreciate the courage it takes for blacks to break out of the Democratic party straitjacket."

What's so hard to understand about that? The man is strong and ready to fight, just like our heroes Ronald Reagan and Clarence Thomas. In fact, we like Herman Cain even better now than we did before Politico mugged him ;)

If any party is guilty of ignoring the protocol for post racial behavior, its your party, son. And this bs about having courage in order to be a republican??? The man is making money off of the nievity your party persumes, he is about as clueless as a light bulb, dumb as all out and could give a rats patulla about being president, let alone a politician...the man is out to get attention and sell books. But hey if thats what makes you and your party happy, more power!! But to harold this mindless minion as some hero???? Dude you need a hug!!

Nobody with a functioning brain thinks America is a post racial society.

Cain wasn't mugged by Politico, his past just caught up with him and he handled it poorly. Those of you who saw him as a champion of your interests were wrong, unless you are a very high earner. He's a corporatist flunky, not a populist. The hard core will stick with him, maybe including you, but he's done.
