First Posted: 11/06/11 05:22 PM ET   Updated: 11/06/11 06:09 PM ET

Every week the numerous blogs covering the machinations of the Apple empire float tons of unconfirmed rumors, futuristic speculation, and questionably-sourced reports on what the company might be unveiling in the near or distant future. Let's take a look back at what these Mac blogs were excited about this week, from October 30 - November 5. Check out last week's Apple rumors here, and for all the latest, follow me on Twitter here.

Just days after last week's Apple TV-gasm -- in which a Siri-controlled HD television set made by Apple was both predicted and set for an early 2013 release -- an Apple fan (and Flickr user) named Guilherme Schasiepen posted to his account a few mock-ups of what an Apple Television Set (or "iTV," as the artist puts it) might look like. Even more (admittedly slick) pictures are over on Flickr, and at 9to5Mac, for those interested.

But let us put the Apple television set behind us, shall we? It is exciting, sure, but oh so far away (and, as far as Apple is concerned, non-existent). Let's focus on something more imminent, for now -- something, say, like a...

Your slideshow is either not working, or my company firewall is blocking important content. In either case, not having the full article available to read, dependent on the slideshow, is stupid.

I don't follow the rumors since they were pathetically wrong about the non-existent iPhone 5. I'll just wait for Apple's official keynotes.

We actually have a preview of some of the features an Apple TV might have - look at the connectivity of the new Apple monitor designed specifically to work with the MacBooks. The assorted ports (Firewire, USB, Ethernet...) we've all become dependent on, all neatly lined up on the back of the monitor with a single port out to the MacBook that connects them all.

Throw in the Apple TV iOS, Siri, and wireless connectivity to all of your Apple devices and you've got a TV that can take a verbal command to play a movie or TV show that's downloaded to your MacBook or connected external hard drive, on a cable or satellite network, or in the Cloud (IOW on the Internet).

Nobody should be surprised if Apple's goal is to use Siri to eliminate the remote control.

Seriously, it's time.

Plausible. I'm definitely going to bet on it being a thin rectangular object.

2012 - Apple launches a new TV.
2013 - Apple sues all other TV manufactures because their TVs look like Apple's.

I'm betting 99% of these rumors will be wrong. Just like all the "iPhone 5/4S" rumors were.

The TV will act as an extension of the other iProducts that are currently available (not to mention stuff that hasn't been rolled out yet).

It will, presumably, be integrated with the Siri voice command system (think Bladerunner) and provide various heretofore unthought of conveniences that 'we didn't know we needed'. Presumably it will completely remove the need for a remote of any kind. I also imagine that voice commands will enable instantaneous "switching" between, say, watching a film on the iPad to the iTV; of course, all this is after we've purchased content with Siri from iTunes--the sort of ideas that just slide off the brain without much thought. There's a lot of potential here.

I am enthusiastic to see what Apple has in store for this product and how it can be used and will decide at that time if it's worth the investment.

Will the TV-programs improve thanks to Apple?
05:30 AM on 11/07/2011
Apple better stop just going on automatic after the release of its latest OS, OSX Lion. Lion is getting a lot of push back and Apple users are mad as hell. Not only that but Apple is not updated past OS's for future hardware so they are forcing everyone to have to run their computers on what is a kind of transitional tablet OS. Lion sucks.

My computer wizard told me a few months back not to download Lion. His son did and is very unhappy with it so I'm glad I refrained. Are you speaking from experience on the Lion?

I had some issues with Adobe programs on Lion as well as Parallels.. Parallels had an update that after some frustration finally worked and the Adobe programs sloooooooowly released updates to fix some issues. I find Lion has led to more crashes on my Mac than I had with Snow Leopard as well. Overall it is stable.. I have not really utilized the features of Lion that set it apart from Snow Leopard so until I do I cannot really say it is a better OS..

As an IT director though we are not allowing anyone with a company Mac to upgrade to Lion yet thought.
01:30 PM on 11/07/2011
My experience with Lion has been bad, which led me to look on the Apple support website and others have similar problem ... and lots more. The main problem I have with it is that with typical arrogant attitude they change things that people are used to using out from under then and make them do it their different, "better" way. Well, their way is not always better.

I noticed some programs are not as good. The DVD player program is missing some features of the regular DVD player program ... and odd step backwards. I don't like the mouse gestures so much and the changing over the way the trackball and scrolling works.

They did one thing right, and that was to make a window resizeable from any edge ... something they should have done years and years ago. I don't like the new mouse with the touchpad on top ... lacking a middle button that I use extensively.

Other have more complaints. I hope they fix it is all I can say.
02:40 AM on 11/12/2011
So your two complaints are the basic DVD player app, and the mouse, which has nothing to do with the OS? Yeah, sounds like an absolutely rubbish upgrade...

Honestly it is not a bad upgrade at all, most people probably won't even notice many differences, and some of the new features are kind of cool. There is not a mass outrage as you seem to hint, but keep dreaming.

I hope picture no. 1 doesn't show the real thing. It's freakin' ugly. Consider the elegant curve of an iMac's foot, then look at this one. Can't believe this is real.

Ah no they weren't. That's a ridiculous comparison and you know it. The "Apple TV" system as in the one I own is fantastic! My question was why would anyone need an apple branded television? I own an iphone and a mac and I don't remember anyone saying "Why would we want to own an iphone?" Just the opposite in fact. But this latest apple television is pointless.

stop clicking on the stories. It's how HP, and other "news" sites, determine the frequency/volume of subjects being published. They certainly won't published subject matter with low interest/click-through frequency... it's the way they lure advertisers.
