Al Sharpton Smacks Down Bill O'Reilly's Herman Cain Questions (VIDEO)

Al Sharpton had a tart response to a recent call by Bill O'Reilly to come to the defense of Herman Cain when a radio reporter for the Washington Times caught up with the MSNBC host on Monday.

Last week, O'Reilly devoted a segment of his Fox News show to wondering why Jesse Jackson and Sharpton weren't supporting Cain in his increasingly uphill battle against sexual harassment allegations. He said that, had Cain been a liberal, the two men would be rushing to his defense.

On Monday, Sharpton said that he has indeed spoken out about Cain — but from a different place than O'Reilly.

"I've spoken on any number of platforms about his inconsistencies," he said. "...Bill O'Reilly's problem is that I'm not saying what he wants me to say about Mr. Cain. Not that I'm not speaking, it's that I'm not singing Mr. O'Reilly's song. Maybe he should check with me before he asks me to say something, because I am speaking, Bill. I'm just not letting you write the words."

Sharpton and O'Reilly go way back, of course. In a recent interview, Sharpton called O'Reilly a "smart person that just sees the world differently than me," and said that the two have dinner together twice a year.

A relative unknown upon his entry into the race, Herman Cain has experienced promising numbers in both name recognition, as well as the new metric of "positive intensity." These upward trends have since propelled him to the top of many GOP primary polls.

In late June, a Gallup poll showed Cain's name recognition up 25 percent from earlier in the year, to 46 percent. Meanwhile, his positive intensity score stood at 24, among the highest of any candidate in the field.

Enthusiastic supporters have also helped Cain take impressive wins at a variety of early straw poll events. He's taken the top spot at the Western Conservative Summit, the Georgia GOP Straw Poll in August (Georgia is Cain's home state), and more recently in Florida and Chicago.

Cain also won a February straw poll at an Arizona Tea Party event, beating Ron Paul in a vote among attendees, though at the time he was the only officially declared 2012 candidate involved.

Since when is Cain being accused of sexual harrassment have anything to do with race? It has nothing to do with race or political affiliation, so why is Fox trying to make this a race issue?
04:52 PM on 11/13/2011
O'Reilly's probably right. Of course what he's not saying is that if Cain were liberal, O'Reilly would be attacking, not defending. So it's kind of a moot point. Wow, members of a political party defend members of their own party and attack others of the other party for the same thing. Glad we got this shocking news out there.

That's right big Al...resist we much.

I love reading the comments from all of the anti-Sharpton whites on this board. In white peoples' minds (especially over 40 years old) blacks have the same equivalent for hate that whites do. Whites will not vote for someone because they are black but try to use reflection to make it seem that blacks do the same. Blacks in America do not do this. Blacks have voted for white presidents since they could vote. Ask whites what the equivalent of the Klan (100,000 plus murdered in history) is for blacks they'll say the black panther party even though the BPP has never killed anyone. It's the same tune over and over again. Just ignore them.....the racists that is.

Bottom line....both Sharpton and Jackson would defend ANY LIBERAL BLACK man against sexual allegations. Sharpton would be yelling, protesting, threatening, screaming RACISM. And we all know it.

Thanks, Rev. Sharpton for not singing the SONG.!!!!!

Herman Cain does not need Sharpton and Jackson to come to his defense. Neither one's opinion carries much weight since their only claim to fame the fact that they have never met a camera that they can avoid. Herman Cain is a great role model for his community unlike Sharpton. Keep up the good fight, Herman!

If you support philanderers, then of course you stick with this guy, Cain. Personally, I think this guy si a clod of the first order and there is enough well documented and established instances where he obviously did harass women and now he makes it certain that he has no remorse. In fact, that he is working hard to muck these woman for a second time and that says a lot of about his being a gutless wonder.

You know the funny thing about Sharpton?

Because he drops his "r's" and doesn't use proper grammer, a lot of Republicans assume that he's not intelligent and take him for an easy mark because they think he doesn't know anything.

I do get a kick out of whenever some racist people have asked Sharpton questions in the past, he quickly shows them he's not to be messed around with by shutting them down and answering all their questions.

Jesse Jackson is a far easier mark to go after so they would be wise to leave Sharpton alone. That man may speak "simply", but he's not simple. Someone is going to mess around and ask him the wrong question and their careers will be over that fast.

Sharpton vs. O'Reilly is a mental mismatch for sure. Just because Billy Boy would defend anyone soley based on their color or political affiliation doesn't mean Sharpton would. Sharpton's fans listen to and analyze what he says, not just blindly drink the koolaid like O'Reilly's. Sharpton has to be smarter, and it is by a wide margin.

05:37 PM on 11/09/2011
The thing is, O'Reilly is right regardless of what Sharpton says.

If Cain were liberal, he and Jackson WOULD be all over the thing defending Cain.

It's that simple.
06:04 PM on 11/09/2011
Sharpton didn't defend Anthony Weiner. Ergo; O'Reilly is wrong.
06:55 PM on 11/09/2011
Weiner is indefensible.
06:56 PM on 11/09/2011
Also, I didn't know Weiner is black.
06:17 PM on 11/09/2011
No. You are wrong sir/madam.

Cain can shut all this down tomorrow. Just tell the NRA he wants them to release all the documents concerning this case, since he has nothing to hide. Cain will not ask for the documents to be released because he already knows there is something pretty big in there.

One woman. Okay, perhaps she's scamming. Two, three.. many they see some blood. But five? There is something going on here. If five woman were after a Democrat, you'd see Sharpton and Jackson saying "No comment", not defending someone lol

I'll tell you one more thing about this too: I bet you 100 dollars that all of these women are WHITE. Cain has something in his psyche that makes him chase, as a lot of black men in Cain's position of authority does.

Al Sharpton is such a Racist who care what he thinks or says. and that goes for Jessie Jackson as well. Leftist losers on a good day!
06:17 PM on 11/09/2011
No, Sharpton isn't and can't be a racist. It's impossible.

Cain got caught chasing after five White women and now he's going to have to face the music.

I can't wait until they get that photo op of five White woman all accusing Cain with Gloria Allred right there.

There goes the southern White vote for Herman!

Most whites think that Al is a racist by the simple fact that Al speaks for the minorities. Every time a black defends themselves from discrimination, the blacks are labeled racist. I believe that many whites would love the 60's to come back were it was not illegal to discriminate. Not all, but many of them.

Why does O'Reilly thinkl Sharpton or Jackson need to defend Cain? Something in the milk ain't clean! Why can't he (O'Reilly) defend Cain?

\Only ignorant folks like you would think that O'Reilly was made the fool.
Mr. Bill explained is quite succinctly.
If Cain were a Liberal...Sharpy Sharpton and Jesse would have been all over these women's allegations.
