Conrad Murray Reportedly Placed On Suicide Watch At Los Angeles County Jail After Guilty Verdict

First Posted: 11/08/11 11:09 AM ET Updated: 11/08/11 04:19 PM ET

Dr. Conrad Murray has reportedly been placed on suicide watch after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson.

The King of Pop's former personal physician was placed under close supervision at the Los Angeles County Jail after being remanded following his conviction, an anonymous law enforcement source told the Los Angeles Times.

News of the suicide watch was also reported by local CBS-affiliate KCAL.

UPDATE: (4:13 p.m.)Television station KTLA reports that Murray has not been placed on suicide watch and is instead in isolation for his own safety.

After 22 days of testimony, it took jurors less than two full days to reach a verdict in the widely publicized case.

Murray's defense team claimed it was Jackson who administered a lethal dosage of the surgical anesthetic propofol as a sleep aid in 2009. They told jurors that Murray wasn't even in the room when it happened.

But prosecutors alleged Murray was criminally negligent in using such a strong drug to combat the King of Pop's insomnia, no matter who administered the fatal dose.

Murray declined to take the stand.

Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 29. Murray will be stripped of his medical license and faces up to four years in prison.

MJ was addicted and perverted. His huge talent was a double edged sword--On one end, he was all that, and on another, his ego ran amuck with his fame. Obviously he was not mentally, emotionally or morally prepared to lead a clean, well-adjusted life with sudden fame at boyhood hardly giving him a chance. The marriage between he and Elvis' daughter was just a big publicity stunt most likely suggested by MJ's countless advisors, who wanted to deflect the fact he never got married, and had to have children through artificial insemination with consenting women he hardly wanted to know, but must have paid off handsomely for the privilege. MJ lead a bizzarre life, and found a doctor that could negotiate with hospitals to sustain MJ's failing health. It was a malicious scheme to destroy what was left of the great artist and entertainer who really never grew up to manhood or knew what it was like to be responsible for his life. Fate got him in the end. And yes, Conrad Murray was a willing accomplice to MJ's death. It would have happened sooner or later, as MJ would have not had the strength to perform in London for 50 sold-out shows. The guy was already frail, sickly, over-extended, and on his way out, and this was his last gasp. May you clear your Karma in the Heavenly worlds of Light, Michael!

" it would have happened sooner or later"? "on his way out"? maybe...and a very strong; maybe not. What we do know for FACT is; if he had been around a Doc and family ( children excluded) that had integrity he might still be alive today...go see his documentary on his last rehearsal for tour and you won't see a frail sickly over-extended on his way out last gasp M.Jackson. There are many opinions out there and 99% of them are probably far from fact...mine might be one of them.....But; Mike was let down...and then OUT.....RIP.

This case is very simple. A brilliant board certified cardiologist that trained at the Mayo Clinic and was deeply in debt gave in to the pressure of giving a known drug addict what he wanted, propofal. DR Murray rolled the dice and thought he could give Michael what he wanted while he got the money he needed to save his private practice. There is no law on the books which says a board certified liscened md can't administer drugs....It was his ethical duty not to give Michael the propofal in that setting.....That makes it Civil, not criminal.

Dr. Murray this was long over due. Hats off to you fine Sr for taking care of the child molester. It's a shame though he has to go to jail. Hopefully he will get the celebrity treat in by 12pm out by 1pm. We can only hope?

According to the medical examiner, there were only minor amounts of one pain killer and plenty of propofol in Michael's system. The pain killer amount was negligible. So quit calling him a drug addict. Also, how do you inject yourself with a drug that puts you to out immediately, think counting backwards when you have surgery, usually can't count but 2 or 3 numbers. We only have Dr. Murray's accounts of anything, Michael cannot defend himself. Murray did not call 911 until after he cleaned up the bags of propofal, which he never told the emergency personel or the hospital about. This is a man who is guilty! Any real doctor would have never agreed to be paid off at $150,000 per month to do something illegal. If he had administered the propofal how could Michael have given himself another shot as was claimed. Come on people, There are bad Doctors and bad doctors. Michael needed help, not enabling as he was receiving. Also, the good Dr. had to order the drugs so he knew exactly what he was doing. Give me a break, Dr. Murray is no innocent!

yes you are right. I have had surgery many times and i start 100, 99 and next thing I know I am awake in recovery.
However, I am a pharmacist and as such I get to hear a lot of stories from people regarding their health. One peculiarity is those that are not common but are conscious throughout the surgery. ie the anaesthetic doesn't work properly. They feel the pain, they are unable to speak.
I don't agree with Conrad using this drug without all the other parephenalia that is in the surgical ward.
You would wonder why he would walk out of the room. The anaestheiologist often just sits and reads the paper and listens for the machinery to beep in case there is a problem. At no time does he leave the surgical theatre.

This should satisfy all those who continue to drink the Michael Jackson Kool Aid. Blame everything that happened to Michael on anyone but Michael. Doctor Conrad is just another in a long line of speed bumps that has gone under the Michael Jackson bus.

I do not have a problem with the conviction of Dr conrad Murray but rather with the judge not allowing Dr Conrad Murray to go home.
Even talking heads on TV were very critical about the judges decision not to allow Dr Conrad Murray to be out pending his sentencing.
The all believe the judges was playing to the TV audience and that on itself is unethical and everybody believe Dr Murray is not a danger to himself or his community.
That's the reason people who are critical of camera in the court room are right cosidering such a situation as this case.

Some in the community may have been a danger to Dr. Murrary.

If a con wants to commit suicide, then no one should intervene. This way we'd save a lot of money housing them for the duration of their sentence. This especially goes for the repeat offenders.

Hope no one intervenes when you decide to go. Make it tonite please.

According to a popular saying, Michael Jackson died from a thousand cuts. Five hundred came from the media who obsessively led the charge to see him behind bars during his two trials. Four hundred came from the public who thought it cool to make the cruelest comments about his uniquely beautiful personality, and callously joke about his eccentricities. Many of those rooting for justice now, were the same ones that turned their backs on Michael when he fought the disgusting child molestation charges. Michael never recovered from the public humiliation and ridicule to which he was subjected. So, one hundred cuts came from Michael, himself. They were self-inflicted as he struggled to express his genius, his pure undying love of children, and his honest desire to heal the world; all within the context of the harsh realities of life. Dr Murray did not kill Michael. He was one of the many people who desperately tried to help Michael overcome his emotional and physical pain. Dr Murray’s only transgression was joining with all the other court excluded doctors who recklessly acceded to Michael’s demands for dangerous drugs. There is no victory with yesterday’s verdict. We will still mourn the loss of a great and wonderful human being who succumbed to his personal flaws, and witness a sad episode in the life a brilliant physician who saved many lives.

This is so sad. Yes Murray was entrusted with the care of Michael Jackson and should not have adminstered Propofol (Diprivan) but.....How did MJ get to be a Junkie addicted to Demerol, Benzodiazepines and stimulants like Adderall- Ritalin ( amphetamines). Where the hell was his family? As long as that poor man kept the $$$ coming in to take care of Mom, Dad and his siblings- he sunk into a world of excessive plastic surgery and drug addiction. Janet was the only Jackson that basically had her own money. The rest were dependent on Michael Jackson for everything. The Jackson family is just as guilty as the Dr. Kleins, etc and the poor scapegoated Dr. Murray among the long list of enablers. Rest in Peace - MJ

Justice was not served in this case. Perhaps Murray's licence should have been suspended, but he is not guilty of murder. MJ wrote a song called "Demerol", he was in love with the stuff, he was on a mission, and he wasn't stopping until death did him and demerol part. He just found someone to administer drugs to him, and in his weakened state, he could not sustain health or eventually life. Doctors do way worse things all the time in hospitals every day and are not branded as murderers. Why is the need to blame someone else for our own actions so great? Because no one wants to take responsibilty, its always someone's else's fault. MJ is the one responsible for his own untimely death, but no one ever has to face murder charges for their own deaths, do they?

Conrad Murray had a responsibility to his patient to NOT give him the impression that it was okay to have that drug outside the hospital. This drug should not have been outside of the hospital. There is a difference between the patient in the hospital who has the necessary equipment around and Michael Jackson who was being attended to by a doctor who took a drug that is only used in operating rooms because of the risk.

Murray's disregard for the danger of using anesthesia outside of a hospital setting deserves a harsh judgement. It was his obligation to refuse Michael, or anyone else, who asks for such risky drugs.

Btw, I watched the movie "this is it" recently and all I can say is MJ's concert was going to be an amazing event... such a shame that the world was denied Michael's great London performance

the jackson family should be thanking murray for making it easer for mj to exit the misery and pain he was going through what was going to live for to do more drugs and shows so the greedy family could rip him off for his earings and not give a dam about his condition what kind morans could not know what was going through all for the mega thier the ones that to answer to a higher law of God
