At last night's Glamour Women of the Year Awards, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg joked that his appearance at the event was on the condition that editor-in-chief Cindi Leive promise never to make him a "Glamour Don't" on the magazine's back page.

Fortunately, the annual ceremony ("now legal" in its 21st year, as Leive noted) featured more do's than don'ts. There was also plenty of fashion royalty in attendance: Presenters included Marc Jacobs and Donatella Versace, and Tory Burch was one of the Women of the Year (others included Glee star Lea Michele, late-night talk show maven Chelsea Handler, feminist icon Gloria Steinem and our very own Arianna Huffington).

Jennifer Lopez, Glamour's December cover girl and the event's top honoree, emphasized the night's message of female empowerment. "It's the women," she said. "Through the ups ... and the not so ups, that's the one thing that got me through," she continued, alluding to her recent split from husband Marc Anthony.

When introducing Burch, Jessica Alba quoted the designer's advice to "Put on color to elevate your mood, and it will radiate to others" -- but many attendees also commanded attention on the red carpet in neutral hues, black and navy.

Here are some of our favorite looks from the evening.
