Karl Rove Attacking Elizabeth Warren (VIDEO)

A Karl Rove-backed group has made the first major ad buy in the Massachusetts Senate contest between Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren and Republican incumbent Scott Brown, according to state Democratic sources. Few details are available on the buy, and Rove didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. The ad, said the sources, is an attack on Warren (watch it above).

The Warren campaign is already raising money off the news of Rove's ad buy. "A few minutes ago, we learned that Crossroads GPS, the group of right-wing billionaires fronted by Karl Rove, is about to launch a wave of attack ads in Massachusetts as soon as tomorrow. They just bought hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of TV time, and you know they'll have the money to stay on the air," reads an email the campaign sent to supporters. "We will not -- and cannot -- allow attacks from Scott Brown and his allies to go unanswered. We need your help to fight back. Help us answer the attacks Karl Rove is about to launch in Massachusetts by making a $5 contribution now."

Below, the email from the Warren campaign:

Hello, I'm Mindy Myers, Elizabeth Warren's campaign manager -- and I'm writing you with an urgent update tonight.

A few minutes ago, we learned that Crossroads GPS, the group of right-wing billionaires fronted by Karl Rove, is about to launch a wave of attack ads in Massachusetts as soon as tomorrow. They just bought hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of TV time, and you know they'll have the money to stay on the air.

We will not -- and cannot -- allow attacks from Scott Brown and his allies to go unanswered. We need your help to fight back.

Will you help us answer the attacks Karl Rove is about to launch in Massachusetts by making another contribution of $25 or more right now?

We're running an aggressive grassroots campaign organizing thousands of Massachusetts volunteers in meetings all across the state. But with almost a year until Election Day, the name-calling and vicious attacks against Elizabeth are already starting.

We don't know what the attacks are yet, or exactly how big they'll be. But we do know we're going to need your help, starting tonight, to fight back and set the record straight -- by telling your friends the truth about Elizabeth, by encouraging more people to stand with us, and by helping us get Elizabeth's message out to the people of Massachusetts.

She will win. I hope Rove spends all his PAC's money and goes broke trying to stop the the election of Ms Warren. They must know already that they have lost this race. It is still 1 year away and I don't think she has the party's endorsement yet. Is this a new record for going after someone early?

Right! Who views Rove's name attached to a pitch with anything but revulsion? Amazing that he doesn't understand that these days his name and imprimatur are anathema, poison. Does he really think enough people in MA, even Republicans, respect his opinion? Wow. Talk about a disconnect from reality. Anyway, Karl, keep airing those ads. You're the best tool we have for electing Elizabeth Warren, and righting the travesty of Ted Kennedy's seat being filled by any Republican, let alone one so vapid as Scott Brown.

I saw Rove's slimy attack ad against Elizabeth Warren on TV last night--telling people to call her campaign. I picked up the phone and called the Crossroads GPS number 202-706-7051 and left a message thanking them and telling them that because if the ad I contributed to Ms. Warren's campaign.

Thanks, this was a brilliant idea. I just called and thanked them for helping me decide to support Ms. Warren, then sent a donation to Ms. warren. I don't usually support candidates not from my state, but Ms. Warren is definately an exception. If she wants to move even farther along, I will be happy to support her for president in 2016. Again thanks for the great idea, I will pass it along on twitter too.
