Rick Perry Twitter Reactions: Oops Moment Draws Criticism, Sympathy (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 11/10/11 10:00 AM ET   Updated: 11/10/11 10:00 AM ET

Rick Perry threw his campaign into jeopardy Wednesday night when he failed to remember the third government agency he would eliminate, stumbling his way through nearly a minute of painful airtime.

"I would do away with the Education, the um, Commerce, and let's see. I can't think of the third one. I can't. Sorry. Oops," he said.

The Texas governor was quick to admit, "I stepped in it," and made the rounds of the morning shows Thursday trying to resurrect his campaign. Michele Bachmann told reporters, "We all feel very bad for him," but some on Twitter haven't been so kind. Vote for your favorite Perry reaction below - and scroll all the way through to read the governor's own post-gaffe tweet.

One thing I can say in Perry's defense is that my own oops! moment topped his with lots of air to spare. When I was newly wed--about a year into my current 44 year marriage--my wife and I attended a party from my work where we knew hardly a soul. The first time I was called upon to introduce her to someone, I forgot her name. I mean...total blackout! I finally blurted out, "This is my wife."

My wife, whose name I now have inked on my wrist, just in case, could have held this over my head forever. As of last week, it is not yet forever, but like the sword of Damocles, there it still hangs, though now with a smile because we both realize that forgetting names and numbers comes with the territory at our ages. I just started 43 years early.

How many A&M students does it take to name three agencies??? Zero because only Romney and Paul offered names of other agencies. We can understand why Perry had bad grades in college. I think his wife Anita knew he was going to fail in the debates; that is why she said he would practice more. Obviously all the practice in the world cannot improve his debating skills if he is lacking brains and a memory. I guess after this pitiful performance Perry's financial backers in Texas will be expecting a huge refund or rebate on the money they have given him.

Is that his real tweet at the end? I mean it cant be, this brainless dolt is running for POTUS, he may not be winning but, the fact he still has millions of people who support him is nothing short of a terrifying example of how far the IQ of some people have fallen.

"Really glad I wore my boots 2nite because I stepped in it out there. I did still name 2 agencies to eliminate. Obama has never done that!"

LMAO...OMG someone just take pointy boots away. We in Austin are shamed, deeply ashamed. Because we keep voting against him.

I think Perry is a tool and a fool, but even I felt bad for a man having a very public meltdown. Of course it shows him to be completely unfit for the presidency, but that's really a side issues. The human in me hates to see a living being suffering. He needed to be put down like a lame horse.
