Some mommys-to-be are planning on taking their 11/11/11 due dates to the bank.
Iowa obstetrician Ross Valone vowed to refund fees to his patients who give birth on Friday, November 11. The money, about $900 to $2,000, will be put into an account for the child, who cannot access it until he or she is 21 years old, according to the Des Moines Register.
Two patients were already scheduled to give birth by Cesarian section on Friday, but the doctor says he's expecting to deliver at about two other babies through induced-labor.
Valone disclosed plans for the special offer back in February, nine months before the lucky date.
The money might be added bonus to giving birth on 11/11/11, but, as one patient points out, it's a pretty interesting date to have a birthday.
"I think it's a really neat thing -- and it'll be easier to remember," Ann Rohner, who is having a C-section, told the Des Moines Register.
Iowa moms aren't the only women hoping to give their babies a special birth date, though.
Doctors in India have reportedly received an outpouring of requests from parents who want their children born on 11/11/11, the Telegraph reports.
The parents believe the date will give their babies an extra edge in life. "Each of the six 1's represent the Sun, which is worshiped by Hindus as the giver of life," according to the Telegraph.
Scheduled C-sections for 11/11/11 are 20 percent higher this year compared to previous years in South Korea, Reuters reports.
Some parents have been planning for an 11/11/11 due date for a while, Dr. Jamie Grifo of the New York University Fertility Center told iVillage. He said some couples wanted to conceive in order to give birth on that date.
In addition to expectant mothers, the date is also popular among couples hoping to nab a memorable anniversary date, but one numerologist says there's nothing particularly lucky about the day.
"There aren't good numbers and bad numbers. Numbers are just numbers," Eric Carlson, a professor at Wake Forest University said in a video interview. He said people are attracted to patterns, such as 11/11/11, but "I don't think there's any mystical significance to it."
But Hans Decoz, a numerology expert for Tarot.com, disagrees -- at least when it comes to births.
"A child born on this date will be gifted in many areas, especially business and finances," he told iVillage.
