11/11/11: 11 Hidden Track 11s From Amy Winehouse, John Mellencamp, Oasis (VIDEO)

Posted: Updated:

11 is prime today in more ways than the usual, and so we turn to the only world in which the 11th thing is often a star. Not fancy iPad album apps, or iTunes singles, or even dignified old LPs, but -- swoosh! (sound of the wayback machine) -- old school CDs. Let's revisit the feeling of playing out a new CD on our Walkmans, headphones all squishy and cheap as we press the FWD button through the dead space after track 10 in search of the hidden track 11 (it's gotta be there!), lurking like a secret encore. These are the instrumental versions, the covers, the singles featuring an unlikely partner, the artist's guilty pleasure, the joke -- not big enough to make the big cut, but bigger somehow than even that, better. The shared track is the reward for the most committed listeners, or just the ones who know to let track 10 play for a really long time.

So click through won't be 11/11/11 forever, or even tomorrow!
