Daniel Radcliffe Harry Potter Allergic Glasses

What does it mean for Harry Potter to be allergic to his glasses? According to Daniel Radcliffe, his signature round glasses gave him a little bit of a rash.

Today, the DVD/Blu Ray release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" has finally dropped for eager fans. Extras include an hour-long conversation between Radcliffe and J.K. Rowling, a feature focused on the female roles in the Harry Potter World, deleted scenes, a feature on the Gringotts Goblins and a demo of the newest Harry Potter Lego game for PS3.

Radcliffe revealed the startling tidbit during the conversation with Rowling.

"Eventually we realized I was allergic to them," Radcliffe says. "I had these two rings of white heads and spots that had come up around my eyes."

"It really is lucky we don't believe in omens," Radcliffe said of the event.

But Warner Brothers has also announced that after December 29, no new discs of the films will be shipped, though in 2012, they will release a premium box set editon of the films.

Um, the books are really hot in China too. So much so that they have bootlegged copies.

So what did they end up doing? Didn't really get an answer there. Plastic frames? Different kind of metal?

He was most likely allergic to the metal in the frames. Its a common allergy.

Lots of people are allergic to nickel. My son can't wear a wrist watch because of that.

what? You have an opinion that differs from mine?
08:00 PM on 11/12/2011
It actually depends greatly upon the type of metal that is used. There are also plastic frames to consider (Some of which are decent looking and durable). I know that if my mom wears fake rings and the like, it turns her skin a shade of green. But if she wears gold, silver, or steel, she's fine.

Mine are platinum. No issues, Expensive as all get out though.....I had to get boys frames because all of the womens' were either "cat eye," or "buddy holly" or huge "owl" frames. I found a nice pair of boys in brushed charcoal platinum that were like school-boy style.

Haven't been able to wear costume jewelry since I was a kid. My watch is stainless steel, all of it. My wedding band is also platinum. 24K gold also made me break out, because it contains traces of nickel.

It probably had nickel in them. That really isn't that huge a broblem, just change out the frames.

I have to wear platinum frames,,,,,expensive, but otherwise I'd break out in a horrible rash....worse than ANY diaper rash you have ever seen.

My watch is stainless steel-----hard to find, but they are out there.

Lots of SS watches are available, from Seiko to Rolex.
04:43 PM on 11/12/2011
This is really ironic
04:16 PM on 11/12/2011
And they didn't think to make the frames out of titanium......
09:02 PM on 11/12/2011
I read where they switched to those. He must have a nickel allergy, which would explain his early reaction.

When the "Wizard of Oz" was being filmed in 1938, the actor originally chosen to play the Tin Woodsman, Buddy Ebsen, suffered a nearly fatal allergic reaction to the aluminum in his makeup. The studio reformulated the makeup and hired Jack Haley to replace Ebsen. The studio never told Haley why Ebsen had to be replaced; they said he had been dismissed for some unspecified reason. Haley only learned the truth in a chance conversation with Ebsen many years later.

Buddy was very, very ill from this!!!! Came close to losing him.
12:36 AM on 11/13/2011
The reformulation was changing the makeup from dust to paste. The allergic reaction came from the dust itself. (Can you imagine inhaling aluminum dust or having it clog your pores?) Once the change to aluminum paste was made, Haley had no such difficulties. It's amazing how one small tweak can make a huge difference.
