Herman Cain's Anita Hill Joke Caught On Tape (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 11/11/2011 4:52 am Updated: 01/11/2012 4:12 am

Despite several allegations of sexual harassment, Herman Cain continues to treat the issue like it's a big joke.

According to The Caucus blog, the Republican presidential hopeful was caught on tape Thursday making a wisecrack about Anita Hill, the law professor who lodged sexual harassment accusations against Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas 20 years ago.

Cain was making a campaign stop in Kalamazoo, Mich., on Thursday when a person in the crowd mentioned Hill. He laughed and said: "Is she going to endorse me?"

A video of the exchange aired Thursday night on FOX News Channel's "Special Report With Bret Baier," The New York Daily News reported.

Earlier this week, a Chicago woman claimed Cain sexually harassed her in 1997. She is the fourth woman to allege that Cain engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior. He denies the charges.

Oh that is HiLARious Cain. What a knee-slapper. Another woman who lied about a good man who was just trying to be a guy. So funny! Wow, could life get any better than this without a beer and a remote?! I wonder how much he pays his wife to stay with him...?

Herman Cain is NOT on trial, he is a candidate for the highest office in the land. We, as VOTERS are NOT obligated to "prove" his guilt. Many candidates who have NEVER been accused (multiple times) of sexual misconduct have not been nominated or elected. Being President is NOT a right -- it is the decision (at least in theory) of the voters. For my part, I look at it this way. Perhaps one alleged victim MAY have other motives for making a false claim. However, it is HIGHLY unlikely that FOUR people would make a false claim. His personality certainly gives credence to the plausibility of these claims. And his joking about Anita Hill indicates that this man does not have a high regard for women.

You have a valid argument. However, it seems very suspicious to me (female independent) that all 3 come from the same workplace. That being said .. the workplace WAS the Restaurant Association = Hotel & Restaurant UNION = Harry Reid supporters, and otherwise unsavory characters.
If he really did this ... then why aren't there complaints from the other decades of work history?

Hi, Herman Cain admitted to a settlement. Now I really don't care if the sexual harassment allegations are true or not, but what I do care about is the fact that he went on 10 different news shows, lied and changed his story every time he was interviewed. Not only that, he knew the story was going to come out 10 days in advance and he couldn't get his story straight?? That's pathetic! FACT!

Agreed onelife,

If these women were lying, there would have been no settlement. Certainly an organization like the Restaurant Association could have the resources to take the matter to court if the allegations had no merit.

And the idea that four separate women -- each unaware of the others' incidents (thanks to the confidentiality agreements) would all make up the same allegations is HIGHLY improbable.

Then there is Cain's attitude toward these women (and with his joke about Anita Hill, which shows contempt for women in general) is also very revealing of Cain's personality -- a man who seems to enjoy bullying people -- even the press, which is not a good idea.

Now he is not allowing himself to be interviewed with a video camera present. That should be a non-starter for anyone who wants to be President. We cannot make judgments about who is the best candidate for the job, if access is controlled by the candidate. One can only conclude that he is afraid of close scrutiny by the press.

So much for the Republicans being the party of "family values"

No one in America is convicted because 4 shills make accusations. He says he didn't do it, why is that so hard to believe? I believe their accusations were politically motivated. Saying he is innocent for a moment what is he supposed to do, bit his lip and act hurt? He says they are lying and he is willing to take a polygraph. I think the ones who should line up for the polygraph first are the accusers.

Would you also take this approach to those victims of Catholic priest abuse? I think you could make the claim that ONE victim could be acting out of political motivations. But FOUR? highly unlikely!! And of course we know that politicians NEVER lie, right?

jamball,

The other problem is with the idea of a polygraph. These tests only test how stressed a person is. They are not reliable indicators of whether a person is telling the truth.

Many victims would get stressed trying to have go back and recount an experience that I am sure they wished had never happened in the first place. That stress could show up on a polygraph, which makes the test meaningless.

There is a reason why they are inadmissible in any court as evidence.

They are also easy to fool. (I once knew someone who worked for the CIA. There is a very simple way to throw off the whole test.)

The black vote isn't what he needs.  The entire African American community is only 12.6% of the American population.

He needs the Hispanic vote, and I'm pretty sure he has kissed that vote goodbye.

In contrast, I am glad that womanizing Democrat leaders reeeeally love women. Mr. Weiner was my recent favorite, and historically, the Dem presidents who were ALL popular (teflon-coated).
Sadly, those Democrats who defected to the Republican party had to be outed also for their philandering, because they joined the Evil Empire of the Republicans. I'm sick of both parties.

Not if the Occupy True Believers squash the nonviolent protestors, and bring real change, i.e. remove the 2 party system and unify to the collective system that our new big brother has (China). They will re-educate most of the U.S., but give only remedial attention to the rest.
Actually, Lenin and his descendents in Russia predicted that the U.S. would implode from within.

Behind Cain's tasteless and classless humor, lies a power-hungry guy who hails from an era where he was evidently used to getting his own way and barking orders. He tells reporters what they can ask him and what he will respond to, He uses the intimidation method of corralling his attorneys to respond to the 4 women's allegations, almost threatening then to dare to try and discredit him. This is a very little man in so many ways. Very Presidential, indeed.

I've heard a Senator Reid joke...very bigoted, but he's in power, and spin doctors waved it off.
If the press protects you, humor can sink to sexist or bigoted levels, but no worries...
Mr. Cain is on the wrong side. It would have been old news, and the accusers would have been outed as repetitive blackmailers. By the way, politicians are mostly lawyers. They know the
drill, so to speak.

There is something very much out of sinc when women as well as men would defend the defiant Cain who has done nothing but attack his acusers. Defiance and cracking a joke about Anita Hil, being angry at everything as well as government? Comeon, now you Cain supporters who probably were Palin, Bachmann, maybe Perry supporters and are probably Tea Party followers, do some fact checking. You come here where there is an abundannce of information, but spew FOX talking points which most of us know are lies & misinformation. You could easily go to Yahoo or most web site carriers for some facts that are lots different than you get from Limbaugh & FOX. You could do a Google search, but at any of these sites you would find truth which is lots different than FOX lies.

Bush had lots larger debt every one of his years in office than President Obama has had, but you choose not to know that. Why haven't you figured it out yet that you are aiding and abetting Republicans who are blocking recovery and jobs bills? Haven't your consciences jolted you out of this daydream of believing Republicans yet? You ARE responsible to know truth before supporting or voting, and you are sinfuly wrong in your supporting the blocking of recovery & jobs.

Its no surprise really when you consider that there is a whole contingent of men in our society who are brash, obnoxious, self centered, abusive and most importantly, attempt to present themselves as virile, threatening males by bullying and being sexually abusive to women.

There exists an entire social contingent of men who float around and enable these types (in love with their power image?) and women who are rewarded with the social perks of being close to power and women who like to flirt with men who are threatening and dangerous because it by proxy, makes them feel powerful.

Its dysfunctional, but its very real.
06:22 AM on 11/14/2011
Kathryn, I agree with you for all the right reasons, and that explains why Eleanor stayed
with Pres. Franklin Roosevelt, a "popular" leader, and Hillary didn't leave her husband during that circus & parade-harem of trophies in the news.
They could exist on their own merits, given the chance, but weathering indignities as they did, gave them strength.

Oh, I love the Peter Principle practiced on Capitol Hill myself. "Planned Obsolescence" is used in the auto parts business as well, since more profit is made on the breakdown of auto vehicles. By the same principle, the breakdown of American society requires continuous maintenance, and the politician is the expert at keeping us happy, moving toward Utopia. Term limits should be set to 4 years, but their pensions and medical benefits will always be better than ours. Hey, I wish that I could vote for my own pay raise. Guess who pays for it?

Speaking of benefits, last night 60 minutes reported the insider trading which those on select committees engage in when they have information on pending legislation - and it's legal for them. Doesn't matter which party they belong to - unethical behavior seems to be the standard.

Excuse me, but does anybody see the spin Cain is putting on his own embarrassing victimization? The majority of the GOP candidates seem like they are auditioning for a new comedy series and guess who's gonna pay? Republicans are scrambling for someone to fail. They know they can't beat Obama so the best they can hope for is to put more spin on the personal and political environs set to take place in the 2012 election and campaign. Why isn't the non-cooperative Republicans in the house an issue especially over the job bill that still is being voted down by the GOP? More spin than an antiquated pull sting top. The GOP candidates are a joke!
03:25 PM on 11/13/2011
You're so right. They're a joke and a bad joke at that. but unfortunatley the joke's on the American people. The standards for these Republican candidates are about as low as they can get. Are the Republican voters so desperate that they are willing to back any one of these losers? We'll see in 2012. fanned!!!
08:34 AM on 11/18/2011
Unfortunately, all parties are guilty of spin.
Realistically, I don't see any GOP candidate that has the qualifications to be president
04:53 AM on 11/14/2011
Agree with the game show appearance of GOP candidates, and the stall tactics of GOP is not a unique talent of theirs, but all "parties" i.e. fraternity members. I wish all the ills of politics were uniquely Republican, as in Lincoln's day. Oh, but I digress to the "wonderful" slavery days, when a slave was declared property, and not a human being, by both "parties", and signatures made a law that hasn't really changed to the present day. This quarantined space rock reeks big time. Look up the Dred Scott case...my abolitionist ancestors puked.
